Thread: Anyone who can translate this? Lyrics here in Arabic (?) يا بياعين الهوى

Hi!

I was wondering if anybody could translate George Wassouf's song Ya baya3in el hawa for me. I believe the Arabic title is يا بياعين الهوى, and these appear to be the lyrics (?):

يا بياعين الهوى شوفوا دوا ليّا
عاشق وقلبي انكوى والعشق كان غيّا
ما اعرفش ليه الهوى مش جاي ليه عالهوى
مجروح يا ناس والدوا غالي غالي
غالي ومش ليّا
حبيبي زي القمر علمني معنى السهر
ويا دوب بلمح البصر صحّى الهوى بيّا
ما اعرفش ليه الهوى مش جاي ليه عالهوى

قولوا لحبيبي أنا إني في غرامو المنى

I have tried google translating the page...awful results with only about every third word translated and the rest garbled. I would really, really appreciate some help! Thank you!

Those are the lyrics, but I don't see a translation for them at any of the places I usually look. You could try bumping the ATL thread (I'm guessing this is yours George Wassouf Ya Baya'ein el Hawa?) by pasting the Arabic with some earnest pleading. If that doesn't work, you'll probably have to pay someone to work up a translation.

It's amazing how expectations expand with technology. I get so frustrated when Google hands me nonsense, and then I remember it wasn't even that long ago that computers didn't come with the functionality to type in Arabic, much less access to programs to translate it. FWIW, you can get a clumsy transliteration with this utility, though. Arabic Converter - Romanization Transliteration

I'd like to point out that in language as in dance, very often you get what you pay for. As Solissa has already discovered, using Google to "translate" is like using a shotgun to thread a needle.

Language is a very human endeavor, best handled by actual humans. Luna comes highly recommended.

I didn't see your thread prior til today and once I read the title I checked it out on YouTube and instantly it brought back memories of when I was young watching my mum and aunts dance around, I must admit I didn't start translating right away as I couldn't help myself, I had to pull out my hip scarf and for ol' times sake, freestyle around the house.
