    Khaleeji song ID

I have this song on a mystery CD obtained in a workshop. On the listing I have it's called 'Asrar El Eion' and credited to Mohamed Abdo. However, at least one other title on the track listing doesn't match with it's track, so I'm dubious to say the least.

Please let me know if you know what it is as I'd like to work on it with a class.

    TIA

PS - hope this works, haven't uploaded before!

Sorry, my Arabic isn't good enough to get a sufficiently long string of lyrics to ID it. When you say your CD has at least one other track that doesn't match its listing, do you mean the listing is totally wrong, or the names are correct but scrambled onto the wrong tracks? If it's the latter and you have the names of the other titles and singers, maybe we can figure it out by process of elimination?

Hi Tourbeau, thanks for having a listen! I can only make out the odd word too.

A couple of CD tracks are scrambled (as opposed to just being plain wrong). I looked at the tracks either side of this one and as far as I can tell they're right (by which I mean I can hear the song title prominently in the lyrics). With this track I can't hear that connection.

I thought I would give it one last try, and yeah, here it is. "Asrar al oyoun" by Mohammed Abdo. I don't know how I missed it the other day when I looked (probably because I was looking under his name on the sites I usually go to instead of just doing a search on the title)... D'oh!

    http://www.6arab.net/ViewSong/191417.html

And the lyrics are here in Arabic http://www.nshjo.com/vb/showthread.php?t=10353. I'm not having much luck finding the name of the album. The sites that have the song tend to list by alphabetical order, and I haven't been able to find one that lists by album that has it.

Tourbeau - thankyou, you're amazing! This was just about one spelling variation of eion/ayoun/etc I didn't try. From the look of the first line of the lyrics it would seem to be a religious song - would you agree? My arabic skills aren't up to much

That was a hard song to search on because there are so many possible transliterations of the words. (LOL--did you remember the "3" variation? I always forget to search with the number transliterations!) I should have thought to search "محمد عبده اسرار العيون" right off the bat. That took me right to it. Sometimes the obvious thing should be the first one you try...

I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think so. My translation skills are pretty primitive, too, and Gulf musicians tend to go for the poetic in their lyrics, which makes the songs even more obtuse. My guess is that it isn't religious, since it has the female chorus and the full orchestration with the keyboard and violin. Usually the religious songs are very unplugged instrument-wise, and they have really strong, soulful vocals with lots of ornamentation. I'm thinking these words are just the sort of religious idioms that Muslims often pepper their speech with. If you have an account at ATL, you could try posting the lyrics there and asking for someone to take a look at it...

No, I didn't! Doh! *makes mental note to self about 3*. My keyboard doesn't do Arabic characters and I'm not aware of an easy way to switch to it, so didn't even attempt to search in actual Arabic

I wondered if it might be an idiomatic use of language because of the context (I'm fairly sure the rest of the CD is khaleeji pop) but I have a suspicion Mohamed Abdo does recordings of religious songs too? Anyway, thanks for all your hard work so far Tourbeau - you've been really helpful. Off to re-activate my ATL account...

    Thanks again

It's not hard to install Arabic language support in Windows XP or later, so you can toggle between the different keyboard maps. Dunno how it works with other operating systems or smartphones, though. In a pinch, you can always try Google language tools. If you know the meaning of an Arabic word in English, it's a passable translator, but it also has some limited functionality to convert transliterated Arabic to Arabic script (for example, it's smart enough to convert "Mohammed Abdo" to "محمد عبده"). From then on, you can cut and paste in a search box.

Many singers release special Ramadan recordings or other religious recitations, in addition to their usual fare. With a career as long and respected as his, he probably has, but offhand, I can't personally remember coming across it. I know he's a popular choice for Eid concerts, though.

    Re: Khaleeji song ID

Gole Yas on ATL kindly translated this song, cutting and pasting the translation here, hope it works. If not, the link to the translation is here: http://www.allthelyrics.com/forum/ar...el-3ayoun.html

Oh God, when she laughed, with her eyes she called out “Mohammed”, and in her I day dreamed
If she calls out to all the people they would come, except for me from me yearning I wouldn’t come, I would go
I saw her, and I forgot who I am, no matter how I explain it I cant describe what happened to me
A thin hair exists between sanity and insanity, if I cut it I would be eased away from love
She looked at me, and kidnapped me heart easily, after I was wounded from her glances
I came to ask where is my heart oh pretty one, she interrupted me and said “no no please don’t ask”
She left, and my heart followed her in silence, I said goodbye to my heart, and with this goodbye I felt happiness
I know that it will be in the middle of a kind heart, and I know that im drowning no matter how much I swim
Suddenly she called out for me, and woke up my doubts, I woke up from a dream with him, I went far away
It turned out that I was day dreaming in those eyes, when for a moment I day dreamed in them
