MAC glitter
what do y'all use to stick it on? I want to pack a pretty good layer onto my eyelids. I have some eye kandy, thought I might try the liquid sugar, but if anybody has any advice it would be welcome!
a friend of mine uses a thin layer of KY jelly to apply her glitter. I tried it and couldn't quite figure out how to make it work.

Re: MAC glitter
You do know that the MAC glitter isn't recommended for the eye area?
Yeah? I know, I use it too on my eyes. I have used KY applied with a Qtip.

Re: MAC glitter
Someone was calling me.
What... I saw 'MAC' and "glitter"!
Yes, MAC glitter I would not recommend around eye area as it is teeny tiny shards of metal. But when I did use it on my eyes, the aforementioned KY jelly does the trick.
Eye Kandy is best (and safest) bet. I've covered eyelids with the Eye Kandy quite successfully. Worked superb on a circus girl's photos...

Lube. Any brand will do.
I put a little lube on my finger, then tap my finger and thumb together to make it a bit sticky. I then touch my finger lightly to my eyelid, then dip my finger in the (cosmetic grade only!) glitter and tap that on my lid.
I have to do one eye at a time, then keep my decorated eyelid half closed for a minute or so while everything dries. But I have always gotten a nice thick layer of glitter with this method.
I learned this from Shakira Om Mia, and it works like a charm. A big, shiny, glittery charm! ;)

Re: MAC glitter
so talk me through how you do the KY thing? step by step, please. :) I tried dabbing on a thin film of it and then tapping the glitter on, but it all clumped up, and even if it did go on smooth it seemed like it would run easy if your eyelids get sweaty? like mine do? (yes, ew)
thank you...

Re: MAC glitter
MAC has pigments, some of which are quite glittery- those are all eye makeup grade and can be used anywhere.

They also have glitter liner.
They also have a glitter product on their site in packaging that looks like the pigment. That only comes in silver or gold, though.
I've used She Laq from Benefit BenefitCosmetics with great success for helping glitter stick as well as for sealing makeup.Last edited by SamiraShuruk; 03-18-2008 at 06:03 PM.

Re: MAC glitter
I've used eyelash glue. Seemed to do the trick just fine...that glitter was going no where!

Re: MAC glitter
I have allergic reactions to powder eye shadow so I can only use liquid. MAC has an awesome shimmer liquid eye shadow line. Although somewhat limited to colors. I don't know what level of shimmer you are going for but I love it and it is made for the eyes.

Re: MAC glitter
Hey, with She laq, in what order do you apply false lashes, she laq and glitter? also, if doing multiple shows, how much under eye spillage do you get?

Re: MAC glitter
I think you can do it in any order that pleases you.
What works for me no matter what I'm doing is shadow (glitter or not), then lashes then liner (again, glitter or not).
I never experienced major "fall out" from she laq with glitter or pigments. That stuff would say on much longer than false lashes on me- which don't seem to last more than 2 or 3 shows in a row for me (using Duo eyelash glue, which is known to be "the choice" to make) *shrug*.

Re: MAC glitter
sweet! thanks for all of the tips!
I had a sitter today (hooray!) so I was off to the MAC store to check out the new "heatherette" line of stuff. they have a silver glitter with a rainbow shimmer to it - massive bling. so awesome! and a new glimmery pigment called pink pearl. and these AWESOME eyeliner pencils with a dark khol at one end and a bright one with sparkles/reflects in it. I got one that was black / acid turquoise. so cool. and, you must check out the VINYL EYELASHES. they are so glam!!
my inspiration today was priscilla presley, believe it or not. after seeing her on dancing with the stars, I really loved how her super smokey eye makeup made her blue eyes pop like jewels. I asked 'my gal' what color would make my greeny-bluey-grayish eyes stand out and she did me up in the pink pearl and a deep plum. wow. it was perfect. I love makeup. :)
we now return you to your regular thread...

I was on the phone with my friend today and she said that she thinks astroglide works the best. and then she told me how funny it is to have a glitter-caked tube of lube in your makeup bag. and then what a drag it is to have your lube pop a hole AND your glitter lid come loose while travelling. yuck! lol!
so now I have to come up with a list of stuff to get at the drugstore, because I'd be too mortified to walk up to the checkout with just a tube of astroglide in my hand!

Re: MAC glitter
I've tried the eye Kandy and It is clumpy, I want like a sheer layer of glitter over my eye lids, kind of a dusting of glitter similar to what you get when you put it on your eyelid dry, not a thick solid layer, any idea how to achieve this? If I just dust on the glitter it flakes all over my face, when I use the sugar water it's too concentrated!!

Re: MAC glitter
With MAC ones after putting on SheLaq I'd put my finger in the glitter, then roll it on my lid. It went on evenly. Maybe that might help?

Re: MAC glitter
I use the KY and a small 1/4 inch flat paint brush. Dab it in the KY, brush off excess, dab it in the glitter and paint it on. At first it looks uneven, but if you're going for a thick glitter coverage, just keep picking up more glitter, no more KY till it's necessary, and pile it on.
I was talking to the mom of some teeny bopper cheerleaders and she said they keep their glitter on with something made especially for them. Sounded more like glue. One of my students does use eyelash glue to get her glitter to stick. I've never tried that. Anyone know what the cheerleader product is?
