PHOTOS/RECOMMENDATIONS: Makeup Brushes
UPDATE: Scroll down for photos and recommendations.
Priced as indicated.
I don't know if I'll be able to set it up prior to my trip to Philadelphia (I leave March 29), but I plan to unload a huge stash of professional, sanitized makeup brushes and wanted to let you know in case any of you needed some tools...
I will have everything from eye shadow to fine liners to foundation to powder to blush, etc.
Post your interests here...Last edited by Azhia; 03-23-2008 at 03:07 PM.

Re: Makeup Brushes
Same here, I would be interested. Will you have pictures of them by chance?

Re: Makeup Brushes
I might be interested too. I think it's about time to replace my brushes for eye makeup.

Re: Makeup Brushes
I am really good on brushes except for one that continually eludes me. I need a really thin brush that stays together tightly to apply liquid eyeliner (specifically MAC fluidline). The ones I have or have found are either 1) too thick or 2) the bristles fan a bit, ruining the line.
So if you have something along those lines (har har)...wrap it up, I'll take it!

Re: Makeup Brushes
OK, keeping track of your requests. Continue to post here, Bhuzzers.
Monica, I do have just the thing for you. There are a few styles that might work for you, actually.
I will take photos as soon as I find out about my replacement brushes...
Many of them are also MAC so I can post brush # and you can look them up on their webpage.
Hopefully this weekend! Sit tight... :0)

Re: Makeup Brushes
I could use a thin line brush too. :)

Re: Makeup Brushes
I know this is probably crazy for make up divas but I only wear make up when I perform and than someone else puts it on for me because I am clueless. Doesn't the make up come with a brush? How many brushes should you need? I usually use my finger or a Q tip.

Re: Makeup Brushes
Sounds like we all need eyeliner brushes! I'm currently using Stila gel liner with a pointed lip brush, and it works pretty well. But maybe there's something better!

Re: Makeup Brushes
Nakia, The brushes that normally come with makeup are only good for painting trim around a door or window. ..l;, I don't mean to be flip. Longer handles are also better for me to work with, too, for some reason.
Quality of brushes really affects quality of application, and shape and size of brush affects application itself. Fingers and Qtips are great for certain applications but not for others. You can actually do a pretty good smokey cat eye with sharp enough eyeliner pencil and Qtip or fingertip. But for fine-line cat eye and contouring and all that, specific brushes can do the job.
If I had to pick the bare minimum number/type of brushes it would be: powder, blush, shadow (medium), shadow (small), angled or fine-tip brush, lip brush. Concealers and foundations can be applied with clean fingers.
Check out the tutorial on this thread (scroll down a bit to Sexy Very Smokey Look) and notice the shapes/sizes of the brushes she uses. It's a nice tutorial!Last edited by Azhia; 03-21-2008 at 12:31 PM.

Re: Makeup Brushes
I like brushes....touching my face kinda makes me gag.
I have this one brush from victoria's secret (waiting for azhia to yell at me) and I'm totally in love. You are all talking about fine tip brushes....is it just a point? The one I like is long and skinny (kinda square looking) and I use it for putting eye shadow on as an eye liner (in combination with some liquid----usually spit haha)
do you have any brushes like that azhia?!

Re: Makeup Brushes
I just need a wider range of brush types and sizes to really learn more about the individual properties of each brush and what they can do. Once I started getting good brushes make-up made a lot more sense to me. I was an art major, brushes make sense.

Re: Makeup Brushes
Azhia, I'm in need of a nice, simple, beginner set of brushes (like, no more than 5 or I get confused). Mine are all crappy and cheap. Could you put something together and bring to Philly and I'll pay you?

Re: Makeup Brushes
Got your request down!
I'm gonna check to see what I have "left" and start posting pics of recommendations to those who asked for specific things...
I'm thinking $3/brush for smaller, $5/brush for big fluffies (keeping in mind these brushes run anywhere from $16-$40) + shipping. These brushes have been in my possession only and I will double sanitize them. I will probably ship them while I'm in the States, too, so that will cut down on shipping costs...

Re: Makeup Brushes
Hi Azhia,
Can I add to my pile of one (so far!)? :) I could also use a big kabuki or kabuki style brush for mineral foundation application. I have one I love, but it has this stumpy little handle. If you have something appropriate for that, I'll take it.
Thanks!

Azhia, I'm definitely interested. As another makeup artist, I'd love to have any of your brushes - I am a brush collector!

Re: Makeup Brushes
That is the other thing I could probably use. A nice Kabuki brush for powder foundation and "bronzing" (not that I can do much of that). I'm fine with stumpy.

Re: Makeup Brushes
Sign me up: yet another dancer ISO the perfect fine eyeliner brush. We should start a support group! I've had the best luck so far using a Bobbi Brown ultra-fine (not regular) eyeliner brush with her gel liner, but I'd love to have another option. Short or long handle OK.
A small shadow brush wouldn't go amiss either: the one I like best so far is quite soft and about the shape and width of my pinky fingernail. If you have anything similar, I'll take it! (Any other favorite shapes for shadow? I'm always looking. Any handle length works for me.)
Thanks for sharing these and your expertise!
