Help: watering eyes + mascara = MESS

I am having the worst time with my eyes when I dance. Instead of sweating, my eyes (specifically the right) starts to water. Combine this with smiling and eye makeup and all of a sudden I have a puddle under my eye that is threatening to rolls down my cheek. I've developed a very coy little maneuver where I can wipe my eyes but just appear like I'm being cute with my hands and face but I would rather just not have leaky eyes.

I stopped using liquid eyeliner and most eye shadow's (except a few favorite that don't get flaky)- I also have a hard time with fake eyelashes as they encourage the leak.

Has anyone else experienced this? If so, what did you do? Any waterproof make up that is suited to (bambino) sensitive skin out there?

    Thanks! ..cr.:

Enter some nice NATURAL makeup ..g.:

I tend to have ridiculously sensitive eyes (par for the course with baby blue eyes like mine, I've heard) and find that a lot of mascaras, even those which are labeled hypo-allergenic, irritate the you-know-what out of my eyes.

I worked in a health food store and have found tons of great natural cosmetic products that make my eyes happy.

I've used Ecco Bella mascara, with GREAT success. It's chemical free and found only in health food stores, yet I actually find that it gives nicer results than even higher-end mascaras I've tried. It's one of those great mascaras that goes on nice and natural looking with zero clumping, and you can layer several coats of it without the tarantula-lashes effect.

Also, I haven't tried it, but Dr. Hauschka, a German skincare company with a cultlike celeb following, supposedly makes an outstanding liquid eyeliner. I've experimented with the tester on the back of my hand, and it seems to go on very smoothly. Once again, it's chemical free, but a beautifully developed product line that gets rave reviews.

Mineral eyeshadows are also a "must." I LOVE Larenim and Bare Minerals. Bare Minerals comes in tons of colors that are sexy and edgy - high-fashion, stageworthy colors are often hard to find in the natural cosmetic world.

Also, I try to steer clear of glitter. (Though I've heard good things about Eye Kandy!) To me, shards of glitter anywhere near sensitive eyes or contact lenses just spells disaster.

Good luck finding what you need!

    Lisa

i find a lot of waterproof mascara flakes, which then get into my eyes...do you have a recommendation that works really well?

Great Lash (Maybelline) waterproof is the best mascara I've ever used. It's a beeotch to get off, but I guess that's the point! :)

Try Urban Decay 24/7 liners. They are vegan and water-proof.
Also, can you get away with top-loading your eye makeup, i.e., nothing on the lower lid?

thanks for the suggestion (and vegan... a girl after my own heart!) - because I have smaller eyes and a super deep crease, I don't tend to wear anything on the lower lid...I end up looking like a rodent!

The Urban Decay liners come in a myriad of colours and they're blendable for about a minute before they set.
ERGO (I love that college word), you can use them as shadows, too.
I looked at your photo and perhaps you can zoom your eyes out with a medium/darkish tone on the outer part of the eyelid, blending towards the temples to enlarge the eye area, and highlight just under the eyebrow to draw attention upwards. You might want to try extending the browline itself a touch further outwards.

MAC Loud lash is awesome! Stays seriously put. One suggestion about the false eyelashes...try switching brands. I use the same adhesive (Duo) for Mac lashes and Shu Uemera lashes but for some reason my eyes water with Shu Uemera but not a problem with Mac. My eyes would continue to water the next day each time I wore Shu lashes. Brand new or otherwise. Weird and hugely unpleasant.

Oh, I love Jemma Kidd eyepencils. Very waterproof and long lasting!

Oh, one other question, are you using shadows with glitter or shimmer in it? I have a Mac eyeshadow that has shimmer in it but makes my eyes water if I wear it. Particles are not as big as glitter but some of it must run down into my eye and irritates it.

Do your eyes typically water when you're not dancing? Do they feel itchy, like an allergic reaction? Do you use any specific type of product during performance that you don't wear on a daily basis? You could be allergic to a certain ingredient...experiment to find which product might be causing ths (wear one product at a time on a day off, for example). I say this because I had an allergic reaction to bismuth, which is found in many mineral makeups..all natural doesn't mean you won't be allergic to it. I might even bring it up to my eye doctor.

If it's eyeshadow falling in your eye, try using a primer like Urban Decay's primer potion. I would focus on trying to stop the excessive watering. I use waterproof mascara (L'oreal Voluminous, works great, cheap, doesn't flake) and eyeliner (Makeup Forever gel liners, can't remember the exact product name) just in case something happens, so I think it's a great idea to find a product that stays on.

Nope, nope, nope! It's mind boggling! But they water like crazy as soon as I start dancing and it's usually my 1st performance of the evening that they'll water and the following performances- nothing! it's so strange.

The "wind" when you're moving/dancing?? A nervous reaction? Something in the air when you start dancing??
Try priming with the milk of magnesia around that particular eye area, like where the tears would hit and start to drag your makeup.
I got the MOM trick from Billy B, who primes Beyoncé's face with it prior to concerts so that she's not a waterlogged diva. ;0)
