High-waisted costumes?
Hi all,
I've always thought Dina's high-waisted costumes were unique and flattering:

Are any designers making these? It seems there are the bra-skirt combos(worn relatively low) or the dress with the covered mid-section, but not this in-between look. Has anyone seen this style around?

Re: High-waisted costumes?
Hi, you can get some of Emans costumes that tie at the hip and bring it up to the high waist area. At least that is what I do.

That style, especially in lycra looks hella unforgiving to me....any tummy pooch at all will be on display and the rear view in a high cut anything can be tragic if you end up with the mile-long-a** look!,f::

Re: High-waisted costumes?
I think I saw an ice-blue style like this on Dahlal awhile ago, made by Eman. As for any other variations, I'm racking my brain and not thinking of any others.
I personally have never found high waistlines terribly flattering, and a lot of my friends find them tricky to wear. (They seem to be coming back in style for jeans). They tend to make my stomach look "poochy," and I'm a size 00 and thin as a rail. I'm sure they look great on somebody a little taller and maybe with a different waist-hip ratio. Everybody's figure is different.
They also remind me of the "Mom Jeans" sketch on SNL....but I'm SURE that's just me! ..l;, ..l;, ..l;,

Re: High-waisted costumes?
I've seen some custom Emans that are higher waisted (and not the cross front kind).

Sticking with my American Cab 'if it goes any lower, it'll be illegal' look. As someone who is short waisted and little fluffy, I'll wear boy cut jeans even if it means going and buying mens jeans and having them tailored!

Wow - interesting responses. I think the high waist slims the overall silhouette and lengthens the legs - I'd like to see it on different body types - I think you all are right in that one's height and torso proportion would be key.

Re: High-waisted costumes?
I wear my bra/skirt costumes a little higher than most and on me, I prefer the way the curve of my hip looks with them that way. Not at the waist, but just a few inches below. When I wear them lower, I feel like it cuts them in the wrong place and makes them look less curvy. But, I also hike the girls up very high to compensate! I think it really depends on body shape. I do wear my bra/belt/skirt costumes lower than my bra/skirt ones.

Re: High-waisted costumes?
I like this style of costume. It makes me look taller, and gives the illusion that I have a waist/curvier bottom half. A side benefit- no muffin top. Considering my short stature and fluffy midsection, I didn't think this style would work, but I was surprised.
Long live low-rise jeans, though...

Re: High-waisted costumes?
i personally don't care for this high waisted look. to my eye, it shortens the torso and creates a very out dated line.
an i agree with the comment that this high waist will give a "too long booty" look from the back. remember how horrid those high cut, high waist bathing suits were in the 80's. same effect from the back.
you can do better imo

Re: High-waisted costumes?
The other question is if you are going to wear a high waisted costume, why not just wear a dress wiht interesting cut outs?

Re: High-waisted costumes?
I already have very long legs and a short waist, and a belly, so high waists don't suit me at all. Like Tahira, I'm better going as low as I can, in all honesty.

Re: High-waisted costumes?
most of eman's costumes are designed to wear a bit higher than an amcab one. people just tend to wear them lower.
I have the eman 'glitter goddess' style costume in red. the skirt hits me just under the belly button and it's extremely flattering on me. I have a very long torso, shortish legs, and a little bit of a tummy pooch. so the higher waistline hits in a perfect spot to flatten out the pooch, and the longer skirt makes me look more proportionate.
so, to each their own. but if you're built like me, try one of the high waist models. :)

Re: High-waisted costumes?
Did not the high waisted look come about to get over having to wear a body stocking?
Those newbies on OrientalMoon have some high waisters amongst them but I reckon any designer will design just what you want!

Re: High-waisted costumes?
I think the high waisted costumes came around because there are dancers with pouchie tummies who are trying ot hide them. or they could just be following in the steps of major fashion, where the waistlime is starting to go up as well.
I have a costume from the '80's where the belt was worn at just below the navel. So this has been done before.
