Thread: vaseline on your teeth

I am sure you have all heard that beauty pagent contestants sometimes put vaseline on their teeth. It is supposed to enable you to slide your lips over your teeth when you have nervous dry mouth. Has anyone tried this for dancing? I performed in a big open building 2 weeks ago. It was 20 degrees outside so the heat was cranked up and the air very dry. My lips were sticking to my teeth even though I had lipstick on. I tend to always get dry mouth (pre-performance) anyway, but this time it was really bad.
Has anyone tried this?

In lieu of Vaseline, I've heard you can slick on a good personal lubricant or that Nipple Nibblers cream you get at the sex shop. You can go crazy and get either of the above in delectable flavors like strawberry or pina colada! AND Nipple Nibblers does give a pleasant slight tingling sensation!

Unfortunately, I cannot take any credit for these genius ideas, as I got them on Bhuz and haven't tried them myself. Why do I have the feeling these were your suggestions, Anala?

If I got such yummy flavors I'd be licking my teeth the whole time. You know how you see older people sucking on their teeth as they are exiting the buffet line..l;,

i've done the vaseline thing and it does work. I have terrible stage fright, so it really helps.

Yes, something other than Vaseline, like the flavoured lubey products sound better. I know there is petroleum in everything, but putting petroleum (Vaseline) on purpose in the mouth just seems yucky.

You get use to it, and you don't have to use a lot, I always do it before stage shows, or during the spring, and I'm on allergy meds that dry up every bit of fluid in your body and give you cotton mouth!! Aunt Rocky turned me on to this trick, and you really don't taste anything.

I use vasoline on my teeth too--another side benefit is that if you tend to get lipstick on your front teeth, as I do, the vasoline will help prevent that from happening.

Nope, all kinds of performers do it, the last thing you want is that Elvis "thank you very much" hair lip look!! It is NOT sexy on an oriental dancer!!

Back to topic, I think I might try this myself. I've seen dancers "dry out" during performance and it seems like quite the battle just to choose the right moment to lick your lips. That's when the smile starts to look pasted on, even though it just may be, uh, stuck. Not pretty, for sure.

a former Vaseline user. former because i forgot it backstage at Rakkasah and haven't gotten around to getting a new thingy of it.

I use Vaseline on my teeth for that reason alone!!! Once I used clear Chapstick because I didn't have Vaseline. Did the job but not sure if I'd run to it as a first option.

I´ve tried it and it didn´t work for me. For dry mouth when pwrforming the only thing that works for me is biting a slice of lemon sjust before entering the stage. And being well hydrated also.

OMG! I'm not good with products lol. The less I carry, the better it is.

I use a signer trick... I just bite my tongue. It makes you product more saliva... Works for me :)

I've tried it, but I think I may have used too much because all my lipstick came off.

I chew an Altoid right before performing.

I use Aquafina hydrating lip oil on my teeth:



I bought it at Dollorama in Montreal in its original version, but drugstores also have the new flavored type raspberry and wildberry.

It's a lot less yucky and cheap, Wallgreens sell them buy package of 3 for $2,99.

When I first started dancers I was told by the dancers from the late 70's to do the vaseline thing. It helped keep your mouth from getting to dry and the lipstick from sticking to your teeth. I thnk I tried it once and didn't like it and never did it again. But I remember some swore by it.

I keep forgetting to do this before going on; there you are, getting in 'the zone' and making a double check that everything else is OK, I have always always left my 'mouth moisture' in the dressing room. How do people who do this remember to get it done at the right moment ???
