glitter dot nightmare
hahaha... just kidding
I have this blue glitterdot that I was thinking about covering with a black mesh/lace and making into a tribal-ret costume....anyone ever done this?
I am looking for ideas to "tone down" the glitterdot but still get some sparkle!

I thought it might be a dream about being buried in glitter dots themselves. ..l;, Or a Trekkies dream of their skin being naturally covered in glitter dots. ,r:;

Re: glitter dot nightmare
I've used purple assuit over purple glitter dot and it looked really pretty. Added just the right amount of sparkle.

Re: glitter dot nightmare
From the subject header I assumed it had gummed up your sewing machine ..g.:
I think glitter dot can make a really nice base under other fabrics--it's a good use for it.

Re: glitter dot nightmare
My nightmare would be that when, Heaven forbid, I get married someday, the seamstress will royally f*ck up and make my dream gown out of acid green GLITTERDOT!!!!
Having a rash of raised glitter spots on one's skin, like chicken pox, would be pretty bad, too.
ANYWAY. I've actually wanted to do that for a very long time, but never got around to it. I have some bright red glitterdot left over from an old project, and a semi-sheer black georgette with vine embroidery and sequins on it, and always thought it would make a cool burgundy effect. Glitterdot is a lot like the sun, after all: bright and lovely to look at, but if you stare directly, it will scar you for life! ..l;,
I say go for it. Half the fun of costuming is playing around outside the box! I always love your daring, fun ideas!
Now, it's time to go eat my supper....hopefully the C.E.O. of Glitterdot Incorporated or the Anti-Glitterdot Defamation League don't read our glitterdot abuse the wrong way and get pre-emptively offended. .p::

Re: glitter dot nightmare
Oh, and just as it's sort of on topic- it certainly WOULD be someone's glitterdot nightmare. One time at a wedding in Chicago- it was an Indian venue and they had a stage.
The entire stage curtain, floor to very high ceiling was white with gold glitterdot. But .... honestly? the magpie in my was curiously pleased looking at it from afar. *blush, blush* I don't care for it in clothing, but a huge wall of curtains...and I liked it.
Belly dance has done odd things to my taste for sparkle.

Re: glitter dot nightmare
Funny thing is, Samira, I can see where glitterdot actually would look very cool in curtains. All the folds and drapeyness would probably give it a liquid kind of shine.
The up side to glitterdot is that it can look very nice from a distance!

Re: glitter dot nightmare
How could I resist the title of this thread? ..g.:
Using glitter dot for sparkle underneath another fabric is a great idea. Don't know if my sewing machine would be any happier about it, though.

Re: glitter dot nightmare
My sewing machine is coughing and sputtering just thinking about using both fabrics at the same time. Definitely a job to do by hand! ..l;,

Re: glitter dot nightmare
My costumers have used glitterdot under sheer fabrics -- go see:
http://www.bhuz.com/file/pic/gallery/8027.jpg (gold/black pantaloons under red chiffon skirt)
http://www.bhuz.com/file/pic/gallery/thumb/7866.jpg (blue glitterdot under black/blue sheer/sparkle stuff)
http://www.bhuz.com/file/pic/gallery/thumb/7874.jpg (fuchsia glitterdot pantaloons under fuchsia chiffon skirt)
We may hate glitterdot and all it stands for, but in a dark restaurant (where I wore all these costumes) with crap for lighting, one sparkles quite nicely whilst wearing it.
BTW -- all these costumes are for sale :)

Re: glitter dot nightmare
One of my teachers wore a glitterdot skirt under a semi-sheer skirt and it was really a cool effect. Every once in a while when she turned or did a "big" movement, you would get a glimpse of sparkle. It was so subtle I couldn't figure it out until I finally asked her what her skirt was "made of".

Re: glitter dot nightmare
I've done a costume where I layered strips of a tribal-ish "deconstructed, ripped up" fabric over a lace with sort of gaudyirresecent areas, It really helped give the costume depth and hidden sparkle on stage.
I think that's a great used of glitter dot. You'll get the sparkle, without the nasty plastic layer.

Re: glitter dot nightmare
naw, the ultimate Glitterdot Nightmare would be having your little girl put her glitterdot princess dress in the dryer.
i confess i forget which bhuzzer came on in a panic seeking ideas to de-Dot her dryer, but i'm still laughing about it.

Re: glitter dot nightmare
I had an afternoon gig last week, and under my dress I wore...not just glitter dot, but...glitter dot harem pants! :zillevil:
And though I feel like I am having a little coming out party here, I freely admit I have done it before and will do it again. I love those pants, they add some easy bling to any ensemble.
So, Jenlindseys, I think covering it up with lace for that layered shiny look is a great idea. Glitterdot is only a tool. We must not let it control us, but we can learn to use it wisely!

Re: glitter dot nightmare
,m:: I have to admit, I am severly disappointed. This thread totally doesn't live up to the promise of it's title for me. I was looking forward to very many interesting nightmares about glitterdot. The strange, the surreal, the sublime.... I feel kind of cheated actually. Needless to say, I'll be writing the management about this.
