Re: Recommendations For Covering Tattoo?
Im a make up artist and for this I would say use a product called Ben Nye which is a professional makeup line from the USA you can buy on ebay or from makeup schools. Buy the product called tattoo cover by Ben Nye, its the best concealer!! Hope that helps

Mac makes a face and body makeup, but I found it works better on the face than on the body. If your Ulta did not carry Dermablend and you want to try it, you can order it online at dermablend.com.
Here is a link to their Cover Creme colors:

The Leg & Body color chart:

And their Find the Right Shade chart!
Dermablend Corrective Cosmetics: uneven skin tone | leg make up | self tanner |
Covermark is another brand. I tried it a few years ago and had trouble getting a color that matched well enough.
Done now, I promise!!Last edited by damiena; 03-30-2008 at 10:42 AM.

Re: Recommendations For Covering Tattoo?
I have a tatto of a Griffin on my upper left arm. It is in the colors of green, brown, yellow and some red. I have had the HARDEST time finding something to cover it up. I went to the MAC counter and they tried every color concelar (sp?) and mix but couldn't even begin to cover it. I haven't found Dermablend yet so it will be my next try.

Re: Recommendations For Covering Tattoo?
Princess Farhana has some insanely cool tattoos that wrap around her shoulders and arm. She often incorporates beautiful shrugs and sleeves into her Cabaret costuming, and pulls them off quite elegantly. This could be a good idea for those times when you don't feel like futzing around with makeup.
And yes, I've heard GREAT things about Dermablend. People use it to cover surgical scars, rosacea, and varicose veins, too.

Another vote for dermablend... though I had so much trouble trying to match it exactly that I ended up buying 3 shades to mix. And that stuff ain't cheap!

Re: Recommendations For Covering Tattoo?
I was going to suggest either dermablend or Ben Nye...my mom has a C-section scar that she wanted to cover so we both looked at all of that heavy body makeup stuff. THey both work really well. you can get ben nye at costume/theatre shops and Dermablend was actually in our department stores, Macy's and Dillard's. I'd check there too; it's easier to try the shades on first. It took a little while to find the right match.
*edited to add that she ended up going with Ben Nye. It was much cheaper and she found a better match. Paired it with their sealant spray to prevent makeup transfer onto her costume. I use Ben Nye cake makeup as my stage makeup and can absolutely attest to their super quality and great value for the $$$

Re: Recommendations For Covering Tattoo?
Yes, I tried dermablend but the lady at the counter could not quite find a match for my skin. It turned a blotchy pink when I tried on. It's very hard to cover. I'm am saving money to remove. But I would like to wear a two piece again. I dance for a Lebanese family once and the momma had a fit with me. I was a baby/baby dancer then and did not know the rules.

Re: Recommendations For Covering Tattoo?
there is a huge conflict about Tats and belly dancers. Many of us have them and never have aproblem. Many do. It's about knowing your audience.
In Islam and in Judism tats are frowned upon. I know one Christian from Lebenon who got a tat on his forearm as a way to discourage attempts to convert him.
Here in the West, there is a love / hate relationship. I know several dancers who are very successful who have them and others who can't get arrested. American audiences seem to think they are the norm. ME audiences here, once again, have mixed reactions.
It's know your audience. And have a belly cover or dermablend on hand!

Re: Recommendations For Covering Tattoo?
I use Dermablend on a lot of actors and models. The trick to a perfect match is useing more than one color. you need to mix to find your perfect shade.Usually when you can't decide between 2 colors get them both and mix. also for the the application you must let the first layer dry compleatly then build up the coverage. Powder to set, and use a light touch bronzer over entire area. I love Ben Nye, but it will sometimes soften and "move" under hot lights and sweat. Derma Blend was designed for birthmark coverage for active lifestyles, so I think it works out great for dancers.
My 2 cents

Re: Recommendations For Covering Tattoo?
What if your artwork is larger and colorful? Will it work on those tattooes? In their demos, I've mostly seen small pieces without color or with very muted colors?
