Another hair product thread -- hot roller recommendations?
Can anyone recommend a good brand of hot rollers?
Has anyone used the Caruso steam rollers?

I had a Caruso system in High School, a lonnnng time ago. Recently, I bought a set of Remington Ionic Conditioning Curlers from Target (for about $20) that i LOVE.

Good thread Sedonia.
I'm using my Grandma's old hot rollers.
She passed away seven years ago, and had them for probably a good 12 years before that...
Its time for some new ones.

I have the carusos. They're pretty good, but I swear I have the most stubborn hair in the world when it comes to holding a curl. The carusos make a great curl (but I think are worse for your hair than normal curlers because it uses steam to set your hair), but after a couple of hours, the curl falls flat, at least in my hair. I always wonder how some people's hair just naturally holds a curl all day. Maybe I should try the hot rollers that don't use steam and see if that helps hold a curl for a longer time.

to my knowledge, i think steam is good cuz it 'opens the cuticle' and allows the hair to be more pliable for a curl, or something like that? plus it 'hydrates' or something, so only potential excess heat may be bad (like from metal heated irons).....but my hair guy i think said if you hit a curled section with a cold air blast it helps the curl hold longer? kind of like cold water rinses being good for our skin.........i can't remember exactly, but that was the gist........hair divas? am i off my rocker?

Steam is actually really bad for your hair! Heat does open the cuticle and cooling allows it to close up again in the shape of the curl, but using steam to do it damages hair over time since steam holds a LOT more heat and energy than boiling water.

Re: Another hair product thread -- hot roller recommendations?
I meant to post my recommendations in the other thread, but it took me a while to gather the info ,r:;
I bought a travel set of Helen of Troy curlers on the way from the airport. They worked great and were an extra large size, which I guess is hard to find (more for body than curl). There were only 5 in the travel set. Liked them so much I bought a set of Remington Ionic Conditioning Curlers "All That!", also a travel set of 5 large and 5 med sized ones. This is a fabulous set that can do body and curl. You really need at least 15 to do your head, but I like this assortment and that they are small enough package to take with me. Both sets are ceramic. The Helen ones are not as hot on the edges when rolling (that's good), but the Remington ones have a rubberized part in the middle that makes rolling easier.
I have lots of very fine layered straight hair. Using the KMS curling balm really helped hold the curl. I use Sebastian 0g hair spray after and that helps as well.
I used to have a caruso setter and the hot rollers hold the curls muuuch better. Also, the larger sized hot rollers can be used to add body ala Texas hair.

i used to have the carusos (about 15 years ago). they were kind of crappy for my long, fine hair because it would tangle around the ends of the "axles" too much. i now have some nondescript clairol ones that work fine, though i can very rarely be bothered....

I think if you have to choose direct dry heat over steam, steam would be FAR less damaging.
Having said that...I bought a mini set of Caruso...the curls don't hold in my hair at all.
..cr.:
When I need a full head of curls, I twist my slightly damp hair and then wind it into little buns on my head. When it's dry, the curls last all night...
The steam worked when I was in my teens...but my adult hair shrugs defiantly at it...

Has anyone tried this one?
Remington T-Studio Heated Clip Setter : Target
(Remington T-Studio Heated Clip Setter)
The heated clips seem like a pretty good idea, and the distribution of roller sizes (12 large, 8 medium, no small) would be more useful than most for me.

I use my Conair Ion Shine hotrollers and I love them. My hairdresser recommended them to me. Doesn't dry out my hair, holds well.

Hi, elljay. The Conair looks like just what I'm looking for! Can you use products like setting lotion with the flocked rollers, or does it goop them up? (I ask because I've always used the smooth ones, but these look easier to roll with.)
