Thread: Vendor who carries petite sizes?

My costume maker is too busy. I have only purchased one costume already made and it had to be hemmed. I am 5' and weigh 105-110; measurements 34-24-34. I don't even bother trying anything off the rack because I know it will have to be altered- don't sew. Appreciate your help

There are a lot of us 5'-ish on this board. I have done the following:

1. bought new or used and hemmed myself. Can do this easily as long as the shape or embellishments don't get affected too much.
2. have custom orders with costumiers
3. buy used from other shorter people (on this board).

Your measurements are similar to mine and I've been considering unloading a couple of costumes but I have a hard time letting go. Just check the swap meets often! I've gotten about 3 from here that I haven't had to hem at all. One I didn't even have to move a hook!

*just realized she shouldn't have said anything because now she has extra "competition" for prime swap meet pieces LOL!*

Sometimes I feel like I am the only petite/short belly dancer; most seem to tower me. There have been costumes that I liked but the hem sometimes had embellishments.

I never thought of the swap meets- Anaheed's Swap meet.

I sew, but if you don't, you might want try the tribe.net "Belly Dance Swap" tribe, since they have a motley of things.

I'm 4'10 at about 93 lbs (trying to gain some weight, though) and last time I took my measurements, I'm at 32-23-33. You are definitely not alone in being petite

Try Isis Imports. I am Five foot Two but I outweigh you by 15 pounds. I know a while back there were some costumes that I liked that were a little too small. Talk to Mohamed.

bellydancestore.com also carries a few small costumes...I've tried a few and their prices are pretty good.

I feel your pain Apadana. I'm barely 5'2" and find costumes difficult to find for my height. The swap page is awesome. I've found a couple of dancers whose costumes fit me and now I "stalk" the swap meet page keeping an eye out for new and used costumes from them.

I don't know specifically what you're looking for, but I do have this used costume for sale. Let me know if I can answer any questions for you.

I never really considered looking at Swap Meets because I thought I would run into the same problem- sizes for normal body size. I will be more aware when I go to events like Anaheed's Swap Meet.

Oh check this board's swap meet - that's where I look. There are tons of costumes, from beginner to ultra high-end. And they're used so they're more reasonable.

I was given this link after posting a similar question on a live journal community. I'm very new and just looking for practice clothing. I noticed that L. Rose carried some fairly plain cotton lycra tops, but the other sites in this thread are mostly for costumes. Does anyone know of any other good, reputable sites that might carry smaller sizes in practice clothing (I am specifically looking for tops - I have tiny shoulders and a small chest, but larger hips/butt/stomach. I also have a high waist - it's only about 2 inches below my breasts.) Thanks!

I will look up the link where my dance partner buys from. She's about 00. I would guess high eighties, low nineties weight wise and...maybe 5'?

I think it was dance new york or something similar where she gets her practice gear from...new york dance maybe? I will look up the link

Bhuzzer Andrea2 is a costume importer, and when I was at her house looking at the last shipment they were all TINY. Might need to be shortened, though I think Andrea can do that, she's a good seamstress. She has a website under construction with lots of costumes pictured (NeeNees Imports), but I can't find it at the moment.

Tim (from Dahlal) told me that the Asian market is the fastest growing area for bellydance costumes, and all the designers are making them tiny now for that market, so you might be in luck with Dahlal and other vendors.

I didn't attend this year's BDUC but someone said there were a lot of Korean dancers that competed. I was even surprised that the Japanese are getting interested in belly dancing. I think the winners (1st & 2nd) for Amani's competition 2005 were from Japan. Gosh, I'll start looking on the racks now if there is more of a market for small sizes.

I have found a few "body doubles" on the swap meet and will snatch anything they put up :o)

Best advice---custom order...I like Mercedes Paganini...Bella-lite. Very reasonable, shipping, cost and time, and is a beautiful set!

? Hell I think I'm a member!! Join the group, I'm 5'2ish and a size 1, so yes, there are those of us that are tiny, and often we sell costumes on the swap board, or you can always ask the sweet and sassy members if they have anything cool to sell. I just sold a smokin hot leopard to one of our girls in Japan. My personal website will have a costume section where I sell my previously owned costumes.

I also have some very cool size 1 belts and bra's for A cups, like 32 A, but all original hand made from my Mom's old dance partner, they are so awesome, so you can contact me if you would like some pics!!
