can this be re-made into a circle skirt?
this is a wrap skirt measures 50 inches along the waist and is 38 inches long, it's made of two layers of silk (one is a bit shorter than the other)
am wondering if a seamstress could turn this into a split panel circle skirt ? how full would it be/would it drape nice?

In order to make a half-circle panel, you need to start with a panel that is twice your hip-floor measurement plus an additional few inches added for the half-circle you will cut for the waistband. So if you want to make a skirt that is 38" long, and you will have two panels (one full circle), you will need each panel to be 38" x 2 = 76", plus say your hip measurement is 38" also. You will need an extra 6.3 inches added to each panel, which equals 82.3" per panel.
So at your current measurement of 50" across the top of the skirt, it would be impossible to get a true half circle panel from that material. You could create a skirt that is bias cut and have nice flow by cutting each panel less than a half circle, but to cut a true circle, you really need to start with a long piece of fabric for each half circle.

Given the fabric you have, what you would get depends on how short you want the skirt to be and how wide the hip opening. For a full length skirt, you won't be able to get a full circle, but two pieces that would be a little bigger than a quarter circle. (If my drawings are correct).
If you want a shorter skirt, you could get a full circle, but you'd also lose the effect of the fabric, which would be sad. For comparison, a full circle skirt that was 36 inches long would take about 4.5 yards of 45 inch fabric.

It could also be done in gores--each gore narrow at the top and wide at the bottom. You can get a lot more circumferance at the bottom of the skirt that way out of a smaller piece of fabric rather than cutting circles.
And you could also leave two gores open for slits over the front of the legs. Or leave them open at the bottom to flare out when spinning.
