Eman Blue Magic Dress, D/DD Cup, XL
Moved since the dress is "on hold" for me at the moment and I don't want to clutter up the swap meet, but I'd still love to have the benefit of your ideas. I'll post pics if I get up the nerve. Thanks again!
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Sticking just a toe in the water here...
I recently purchased Eman's Blue Magic dress from Dahlal; see "Full Size and Fabulous -- Dresses." I love it: the blue is very rich and deep, the wide V neckline gives it a glamorous Old Hollywood feel, and the whole thing makes me feel like the Queen of Raqs Sharqi! But I'm reluctantly coming to the conclusion that the bra style and size don't work for me, and I don't want to invest in overhauling it to keep from frightening animals and small children. So, any interest?
According to the tag, it will stretch to fit up to a 58" hip. The hips fit me very happily at 48"-50" (size 18) and can definitely go several inches either way because there is a lot of stretch in the lycra. I will measure it unstretched to see how small it will go. There are some very discreet cutouts lined in blue mesh through the middle and a slit over the left knee. Zips up the back.
The length at center front is 47.5", says the tag. It works for me at 5'5" and wide: if you're slimmer, of course, it will be longer. Bottom edge is not beaded, so you can take it up an inch or two without running into the beadwork, which is beautifully done in silver and black. (You can shorten it further but will lose a leaf motif or two in the back.) As always, the beading has more sparkle than you'd think from the large photos, with some of it done in small rhinestone chain. I can take closeups if you like.
Skirt looks fairly straight in Dahlal's photos but actually flares out toward the bottom, with a godet in the back for extra swish.
Bra is a built-in halter. It is very bare on me at 38DDD, but I think a 38DD or D, 40 D, etc. would do very well.
Dress is new, tried on twice, tag still attached. I'd like to get $625 and will ship to US addresses for free. Comes with the detached right sleeve as shown in the photos and an unembellished rectangular veil in blue chiffon.
Thanks very much for looking!

(WOW -- are you SURE you can't make it work for you? It's a beautiful costume!!! I'm a B, so it's way off the mark for me, but I don't think there are any like this "off the rack" -- someone needs to snatch it up!)

Thanks, honey. That was quick!

I know -- I'm crying! ..cr.: And I'm not 100% committed to finding it a new home. These sure don't come along every day, especially not in my current size. I was thrilled that it happened to be just right...or so I thought.
The thing is, I really thought it was going to work with just minimal alterations: straps and hooks and a little extra trim across the top. I usually have a pretty decent feel for these things, but I got some comments/suggestions on it from friends last night that made me think I was totally wrong about how the top looked on me. And I'm reluctant to do a lot to it when it's so pretty and stylish as is (and let's face it, not cheap). So I don't know....
*sniff*
I'm glad you think it's beautiful, too!

Heh as much as I love that dress I hope my travel plans don't fall through! I've already paid for my flights to Germany and Turkey, so it's full steam ahead now! (although my fingers haven't worked this out - they keep typing in "bhuz swapmeet"...)
I hope you get convinced to keep the dress - it's sooooo gorgeous!!

Zana, the dress is gorgeous. Keep it. You could install some sheer or glitter mesh above the cups between the halter straps to contain the lovelies. Sew on a few rhinestones onto the mesh and it would be fabo!

I had been stalking this dress on dahlal.com for a long time - so glad it went to a bhuzzer. It has such nice lines - I hope you can make it work.

Yep, she did, right down to sewing on the rhinestones! Great minds....
I've got to tell you, ladies, this dress and I have been blown away by all the encouragement and the great suggestions on camouflage and cantilevering, both here and by e-mail. Thank you so much! I'm going to give it another think and talk more with my clever friends about how to make it work. If in the end it still has to go, lunablu gets first refusal.
I feel like a dope, kicking up such a fuss over a couple of yards of lycra and some beads. But it also reminds me of one big reason I fell in love with this dance in the first place: the people who come together to share it. Thank you, sweethearts.
