Hmm, I've always used Ardell but I recently bought a set from Make Up Forever and neither glue gave me problems. If they don't work, don't fuss with it; just my opinion. I don't usually wear them because it's one more thing to worry about!

I actually prefer the individual lashes; although they're not as dramatic, they're more natural looking for up-close shows and (IMO) are much easier to apply. Still takes time though - I have to make sure i have plenty o'time to get it right :)

Duo glue and Ardell´s Demi Wispies, baby!

Madame Madeline: Ardell InvisiBands Demi Wispies, Ardell InvisiBands & LashLites Eyelashes

Make sure you put the glue on the lash and *wait 20-30 seconds* for it
to become tacky before you make an attempt to put them on.
(this is why people give up on lashes, they´ve never heard about the long waiting time and become disappointed when the lashes doesn´t stick)

I wait a lot longer than 20-30 seconds; more like 3-4 minutes...until the glue is actually tacky. And I find it helps to put a blob of glue on a clean surface (like back of my hand) and then run the lash line through the glue, rather than applying the glue directly from tube to the lashes.

What is the shape and placement of your eyes? Sometimes you can get away with applying the outer 1/3 of the lash band (cut it off), rather than the entire band, which can be a great challenge to the uninitiated or clumps, which don't give as much of an impact.
Cut off the outer 1/3 and trim the lashes so that they go from short to long; this looks more natural. Also what Nasila said about the glue application.

I wear contacts, and I like the Ardell brand best. I got Modlash this last time, and found that the band was a lot stiffer than the Ardells - much more likely to poke me. I also trim the lashes from the outer corner and only put them on the middle portion of my eye, not too close to the inner corner and not much farther out than the edge of my pupil (my eyes are downturned and this helps me to create more of an upturned look).

Red Cherry lashes (trimmed to fit bettter) and It Stays for adhesive. My problem seems to be the latex as opposed to the lashes.

    duo glue

i also use a clear lengthening/thikening mascara, to sort of glue my own lashes inline with the fake ones.

MAC lashes are my favorite. The #34's are so beautiful (soft, wispy and natural texture, but they wing out dramatically at the edges), and the band is thin and flexible. No poking. They feel so comfortable on!

And some Ardells are much more likely to poke than others....weird.

In addition to all the wonderful advice above; during the drying time, hold each end of the lashes while holding them in a U shape and move the band back and forth kind of like you would a slinky. This helps it gain a little flexibility.
I also use tweezers to press the edges towards my eye.
I second (or is it forth by now?) Duo eyelash glue.
This gal has great tutorials on youtube. Here's one on applying false lashes
