I have 2 circles on mine at the waist (cutouts) and they stand away from my body in the back (trampoline)

If you're making the lowcut kind to wear with a beaded bra, have someone cut it while it's on your body! I made a few and always ended up cutting way too much, which just made the whole thing fall off my shoulders. You don't need much cutout to do the trick--less than you think.

Also, if you're using a fabric without much stretch and going for the low cut look, use some elastic around the edges of the cutout to help it stay in place.

Good luck! These are my favorite costumes these days.

I am reviving this thread because I just made a dress with the U cutout, and of course, it fell off my shoulders. Any advice to fix that????

I made one out of a stretchy dress. I marked where the cutout should go while I was wearing the dress, then cut conservatively and cut a little more after trying it on again. Lots of putting it on, marking with a pin, taking it off, cutting, putting it on again, etc.

I cut slits in the side seams of the skirt and added the paillette trim. I wear it with a coin scarf, bra and gauntlets. And an underskirt.

Sorry, don't know about fixing the too-large opening, except sewing it back up and covering the seam with some trim?

Or making it into a lace-up design?

Yeah I thought about sewing back on and edge with trimming to make the opening smaller. We'll see how it goes!!! That's what happens when you make your own pattern I guess :)

Hooks. I have a u front dress bought from Maria and she had put hooks and snaps to attach the bra and dress where the dress passes over the bra. It works.

You might also want to put a small strap which is on the under side of the dress which you thread the shoulder strap through. How do I explain this better. . .

You stitch a small strip of fabric so that one end is attached to the underside of the dress and the other has a snap on it which attaches to the under side edge. the shoulder strap then runs between the underside of the dress and the little strap which you then snap into place.

    Does that make sense?

Check out some sewing patterns for summer dresses. There are lots of flirty, flippy dress patterns out there with ruffled skits and just aching to be made out of a ridiculous floral print!

Yes thank you! I will try them out-the material is to die for and and the rest of it fits perfect, I just royally botched the opening!

If any of you have photos of your Baladi dresses please share, I'm dying to make one too but don't know where to start.

My solution was to cut it at the hips and shoulders and turn the dress into a matching skirt and belled gauntlet set. Which then turned into one of my favorite sets, so all's well that ends well ..g.:
