Thread: milk of magnesia for acne?

this is cool, i read in the paper (every friday they have a section where people ask about home or alternative remedies for eeeeeverything), that one woman's teen son had cystic acne where nothing worked and didn't want him on accutane..........

someone told her milk of magnesia, so her son tried it, and is clear skinned now after 2 weeks

i've seen it mentioned in previous threads as a primer, anti perspirant, etc........any thoughts? and drawbacks for daily use?

I've never tried that! I've struggled with acne since elementary school, and I was on accutane for a while but I refuse to do it again.

Another alternative I've heard about for acne is face accupunture. I plan on trying that sometime soon!

I've read about using milk of magnesia as a mask or under makeup. MoM absorbs oil, so it can help clear away any surface oil on your skin. Since some kinds of acne are mediated by surface oil on the skin, using MoM might help. I'm surprise that it would help with cystic acne, as I thought that kind of acne is mediated by stuff going on underneath the surface of the skin. But I may be wrong, and there really isn't any harm in trying it. MoM is a great, cheap mask for folks with skin that is a little bit oily, for sure.

I ahevn't tried it yet, but I'll go out and buy me some tomorrow. I'm willing to try anything!! I'm dealing with a lot of stress right now and my skin is retaliating with cystic acne, like it did the past 13 years. ,f::

Someone to whom I had recommended MoM uses it as a primer underneath makeup for her performances. She reports that it totally works!

Using MoM for acne: wash face as you normally would and dry. Then take MoM and blot it on the pimple so it is a thick spot on face. Let it dry then brush off if using in am. Leave on & brush off excess next morning if applying at bedtime. This can be done 2 to 3 times a day until problem area is gone. It works really well!!!!
