..cr.:
Over the weekend I managed to rip two small holes in my luxury velvet LRose dress. Unfortunately, they're not in a place that could be covered by a belt (right on the midriff, actually). My costumer friend tried to fix them but either created a pucker in the fabric or else couldn't hide the repair thread. She wasn't happy with either outcome so she let it be.
Anyone have suggestions? I have a note in to LRose with the same request, but I thought I'd ask here too. And I was just getting ready to sell the durned thing, too! ,m::

Cover the threads that are showing with a small sequin pattern in a color that matches the fabric as closely as possible. An iron on fusable patch on the off side of the fabric (if there is no fabric missing) is sometimes better than sewing with thread.

Ooh, that's too bad! I hope you find a solution. You might contact L Rose and see if they have ideas on what to do.

If the holes are in midriff area . . . how about creating a midriff cutout, either mesh-lined or not, with a beaded edge. A daring fix, but it might be really cool! Wonderful costume enhancements can come out of needing to "fix" something.

I've thought about an applique, but I like Anala's idea of matching sequinage.
Lessee, it's teal green. Size? I'd have to revisit my measurements for that, but I'm roughly a size 14. I was a little skinnier when I ordered it last year but it still fits, albeit more snugly. Length from armpit to hem is 51". If you're interested, I can PM you when I'm ready to let it go. Provided I can fix it decently!
Still entertaining suggestions . . .

Ah, I have too much teal already; looking for a warm colored dress.
Can you have the seamstress turn it into cut-out?

Sorry about your dress -- I know I love mine and would be very upset if something like that happened!
I've seen large bodice appliques that would cover the holes and look like you meant to do it :) The issue would be matching/coordinating colors, but I've seen them on eBay in metallics and combinations of colors, so that might be easier than I think...

Maybe you could turn it into a midriff top and skirt. You could use the cut away fabric from the midsection for more accessories like a headband and sleeves.

Oh, I "might" have a solution... I had tears in something and I went to my local fabric store and bought one of those iron on hole repair things. It looks like thick pieces of fabric with sticky stuff on one side. You place it sticky side down on the inside of the garment and iron it. BUT, since your dress is made from velvet, you don't want to press it too much because you'll lose the nap. Just be careful and if you can test a small spot, that would be best. Plus, be sure that there aren't any gaps in your garment. Once the repair piece is secure, you can't move it, so make sure it's perfect before you do anything. I think you can cut the pieces to make them smaller sized too. Good luck.
