Potential fix for Pharaonics plastic beads!
I know there was a thread posted a while ago about what to do when the color flakes off the plastic beads on a pharaonics costume. I've got a few costumes with that problem, and am happy to report that I think I found a solution.
I bought some Createx Auto Air car airbrush paint and painted it on the beads. Seems to hold up pretty well - I tried light scratching and nothing happened to the paint. ..g.: ..l;, ..g.:
As a bonus, they have a good range of pearl and metallic colors (I was able to match the color on my teal pharaonics exactly!)
A list of the colors they have can be found here:
Createx Auto Air Colors - Discount Art Supplies at In2Art.com
I'm off to buy some more to fix my other costumes! :)
(If you're in the boston area, Discount Art Supply in Central Square sells the paint)

You may also find that model paint works too. That comes in a load of colours and in tiny pots.

ZOMBIE THREAD ALERT!!!
So, how is the car paint holding up lilya? Anyone else try it? What about model paint?
I'd like to hear from someone who has successfully painted their pharaonics plastic beads.

Re: Potential fix for Pharaonics plastic beads!
I tried the model paint. I had gold and yellow beads on a pharonics that needed painting. I wasn't satisfied with the result. The gold beads I painted weren't anywhere near as bright at the gold beads that I didn't paint and the difference was noticeable. I also thought my yellow painted beads looked splotchy. Now, I'm extremely fussy about my costumes so someone else may not have noticed. I'm certain it wouldn't have been noticed while I was wearing it. But, knowing that the beads looked funky affected the way I felt about the costume. I ended up re-strining all the fringe with the nasty bead problem.

I wonder how nail polish might work?
I have a white Pharaonics with some chipped pearl and silver beads. Wondering if I should paint them or re-string.

Re: Potential fix for Pharaonics plastic beads!
Mine isn't a Pharaonics, but I bought a costume here on Bhuz that ended up being MUCH more used that had been described. Pretty much every single bead on every strand of fringe (as well as the ones that were sewn onto the costume) were chipped. The really sad thing was that prior to painting the beads, they had been different colors, so some were black, some grey, some kind of blue-ish, some were green (this is a cranberry costume, and the beads had all been silver). I repainted every single bead on that costume (using silver nail polish) and it worked great. I've gotten more compliments on that costume than I usually get on my more expensive ones. This was pretty recent, so I've only performed in that costume once, so I can't speak to how well it'll hold up, but even if I have to repaint some of them every so often, that's not so bad (until I run out of nail polish- I haven't been able to find that exact one again!)

Good to know, Amara! I LOVE my white Pharaonics, but I'm way too lazy to re-string the fringe

I'll have to try the nail polish tomorrow!

Re: Potential fix for Pharaonics plastic beads!
I repainted the peeled pastic beads on a few of my pharaonics costumes. I use nail polish on some beads and model paint on other beads.
I was not able to find a good variety of metalic colours at the stores I went to, most were flat colours.
So I decided to use nail polish on some of the beads and it worked very well. By using 2-3 different colours , you need to inspect costume very closely to notice the beads have been repainted.
The larger beads need 2 coats to have a better, more even finish.

I use nail polish on mine too and it works really well.
I got a great reflective silver nail polish from the local dollar store called "mirror image" by Maybeline. Maybelline Mirror Image Nail Color : Cheap Cosmetics, Discount Makeup, Skin Care, Purchase Direct Online Wholesale Superstore
It looks super cool on nails too! I didn't use the primer on the beads, just the silver nail polish.
I wish they made one in gold too.

Re: Potential fix for Pharaonics plastic beads!
Hi All,
I'm about to embark on a project(s) (!!) that involves painting plastic beads silver. Has anyone tried the metallic silver from the listed "Createx Auto Air Colors" website? How were the results?
I really don't want to re-do the beads in the future, so has anyone tried "sealing" the paint with a sealant?
Suggestions?

Re: Potential fix for Pharaonics plastic beads!
Hmmm, maybe I got bum nailpolish, because I tried out some on an already-peeling bead, and it melted the paint off the little section I tried!
For those of you who have had success with nailpolish, which brand did you use? I just used the Brucci kind (cheapie brand) from the drugstore
