Mineral Makeup
Does anyone have experience/feedback on the various lines of mineral cosmetics? Especially any ladies with skin issues. Mine is so sensitive I wonder if I don't belong to a different species at times, but I would to try these products.

Re: Mineral Makeup
There is an old thread about MMU(mineral makeup)somewhere on this forum...
Anyway I have tried out several "big" brands like Bare Ecscentuals, jane Iredale and Youngblood, but were unhappy as I realized I had a bismuth oxychoride sensitivity...
The brand I have been most happy with is also the cheapest:
Mineral Makeup - Foundation, Eye Shadow, Concealer, Lip Colors, and Blushes by Everyday Minerals
The test set is FREE,just pay shipping)
I wear for everyday makeup:
Foundation in Fawn and Sandy Fair(both Intensive and Original Glow works well for me and doubles as concealer)
I have very pale face skin(an NC20)and they had many fair shades that fit me.
Blush:Pink Ribbon.
Eyeshadow:Chamomile,Samba Lessons and Oasis.
Lipstick:Spring Pink(with Shiseidos Mauve Brown,a nude lip liner)
Their brushes are sooo soft...loved them!

Re: Mineral Makeup
I use Bare Escentuals/Bare Minerals for everyday wear. It provides really nice coverage, although minimal. I have a lot of blackheads/am prone to breakouts and the foundation covers me up really nicely without looking washed out...I just look airbrushed! It also really helps my complexion. You can sleep in it, which is nice because my biggest problem is remembering to take my make up off. I also loooove their blush "Clear Radiance" and they have a nice selection of eye shadows too.
But I don't generally wear it for performances; I prefer to use a liquid foundation.

Re: Mineral Makeup
I use Lily Lolo makeup. I have sung its praises on other threads but to sum up: With practice and good technique I get a far better finish than I can with sponge-applied liquid and powder. It is sweatproof, especially when used with a base powder, the staying power is phenomenal. With correct technique it is possible to get any level of coverage I need.
Be careful with mineral cosmetics, a lot of them are full of rubbish, what I like best about Lily Lolo is that the ingredients are very basic.

Re: Mineral Makeup
My absolute favorite brand is called Aromaleigh! The make is all top quality and will ruin you on anything else! They also have AMAZING colors of eye shadows, bushes, and foundations choices! They have a very active forum, and some of the ladies post the most amazing eye shadow pics, and lots of tutorials! The own, Kristen, also carries skin care products, some regular make up, natural fragrances, and top quality brushes. She is very active on the forums, ready to answer any question you have! Shipping is really fast, too!
If anything, go check out all the samples. You can get generous sized samples of nearly everything, and free shipping on sample only orders!

Re: Mineral Makeup
I use the Everyday Minerals linked earlier and love them. The hardest part for me was simply finding the "best" shade. I've tried probably 8 foundation shades, and really, all of them work better than most liquid foundations as far as matching, but I think I finally found the right shade that is almost flawless on my skin.
I wear the mineral foundation for performances as well as everyday, and I've found that my face tends to appear less sweaty after a performance with the minerals than I ever had with liquid. Just my $.02.
The other neat thing about EM is that they run specials which are listed on their site, and you can get lots of freebies with an order.

Re: Mineral Makeup
Diehard Bare Minerals fan here! I love it for everyday wear and for performance. I have super sensitive skin and eyes (I can't even wear supposed "hypo-allergenic" brands like Almay or Physician's Formula; even those give me breakouts and bloodshot eyes), but Bare Minerals gives me no problems at all.

I swear by bare esscentials - bare minerals line. I wear it to class and when performing. Even after working up a major sweat in class, it is still on with full coverage. I also love thier mineral powder conceler. As a extra step I set all powder make-up with evian mist on water. Tried lorels mineral make-up is a fairly good cheap alternative, but, not as good.

Re: Mineral Makeup
total hijack...
I'm still trying to get rid of 2 full-sized containers of Bare Minerals in "Deepest Deep" and "Fairly Light."
This is the thread.
To get back on topic...I purchased DEX minerals recently because they purported to have more "rockstar" colours. Eh. I bought the foundation and bronzer, which I really like. I also find the application fascinating, dusting a bit into a small bowl that fits in the palm of your hand and then swirling the brush inside the bowl.
Overall, however, I'm phasing out of mineral makeup. My skin has changed and it's just not working for me now. I used it with much satisfaction for over 6 years for everyday as well as performance, and I used to use it on brides, but have switched to liquid and/or airbrush foundation.Last edited by Azhia; 05-08-2008 at 10:06 AM.

Re: Mineral Makeup
This is going to sound stupid, but I can't figure out how BE doesn't sweat off. I can usually make any powder sweat off eventually. Makes me wonder what diabolical means it is using to attach itself to my face....

Re: Mineral Makeup
I think it's because of the application method. Most powders are just brushed onto the face, but the buffing method used to apply mineral powders kind of push them into the face, if that makes sense.

Re: Mineral Makeup
Micabella fan here. Love it. Somewhat expensive, but the easiest makeup line ever to use. Plus it's multi-use. It's a powder-pick a shimmering color.
Add clear nail polish and it's nail polish
Mix with water and it's a cream or liner
Use it with vasoline and its lipstick
I love the bronzer!

Re: Mineral Makeup
I have been having a hard time finding a mineral make up that matches my skin. I had two different shades and they still look to dark or tan on my face. I am fair skinned with freckles. I also have a hard time with the mineral make up sitting in my wrinkles/lines and makes them look worse then they are which makes me look older.

Re: Mineral Makeup
I have much the same skin and much the same problem, Mahira. I don't think mineral makeup - or "powder", as we oldies like to call it - is particularly good on dry ageing skin.

Re: Mineral Makeup
mahira, supposedly if mmu settles in your lines, it's too dark. everyday minerals, my fave too for those who haven't clicked kiyaana's link to my old thread, has lots of foundation shades - with a variety of undertones - including some that are slightly too light for me, which i can tell you almost never happens!! it also comes in shimmery, semi-matte, and completely matte. and you can get free samples! one caveat, for sure, is that your skin has to be completely dry to the touch before you put on minerals, or they can cake up and age you.
