    I Need a Drawing of a Body

My Spidey Designer Senses are acting up again and it is so hard to get my ideas down on the page when each body I draw really looks like Montgomery Burns as a drugged out ghost figure in the "X Files" episode of The Simpsons ("The Springfield Files").

I need a good illustration of the full front and back of a body form.
    These are my criteria:

1/ Fits within 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper and proportionally takes up as much of the page as possible.

2/ From the head (no facial features needed) to the feet.

3/ Denotes breasts, belly button, hips, and knees.

4/ One arm out to the side, the other relaxed downward at the side, with some arm pit separation.

5/ If someone can do it to my proportions that would be a dream.
    Willing to commission.

    Thanks for your help!

I have a costuming book that has a simple line drawing of a front view I can scan and email. One arm is out to the side and the other overhead. You would have to add a belly button. She is probably not as slim as you are, I'd guess that she looks like about a size 6. Let me know if this is something you could use.

    Hello Azhia,

When I am working on sketching draft of different costume idials I use the shetching sheet from Topkapi design:

    Topkapi Designs Sketch Sheet

    I just print it on a 8 1/2" X 11" sheet of paper.

You can also have your picture taken waring a unitar or urderware in the position you want the skech to be and put an onion skin paper over the picture and trace the contour of your body. Then you will have a basic sketch in your own proportions.

    Hope it help.

    Hug

As a complete aside, this is going to bug me for ages now, because I know there's a proper word for that kind of picture, used routinely in the fashion design world, and I can't remember what it is...

Béa, you'll kick yourself 'cause it's French! The term is croquis.

    Probably routinely pronounced "croakies."

Look, there's a whole family of them here: Meet the Threads Croquis Family

Topkapi's is much more elegant, though.

    Hi Azhia,

I can't draw like my twin can. When I need to make illustrations for some of my doll patterns, I take an actual photo. Lay a piece of clear mylar or clear plastic sheet protector, (I've also had to use clear newspaper bags), over the photo and trace, with a fine tip sharpie pen.

Workes great! My drawings were in perfect proportion to my pattern pieces!

My customers where very happy with the illustrations!

Oh, oh. You could cut out a pic of yourself in your undies, glue it to a foam backing, and make little paper doll clothes for yourself!

..l;, OMG this sounds like so much fun!

    Thanks for the ideas!
Qamar, I might use that one, too.
Bea, that's such an easy solution as well!
    Thanks, Khalima!
I can even pro'lly have my partner take a photo of me nekkid, and then do that PhotoShop thing that instantly turns it into a drawing/sketch. Hmmm...

    That's my niece Jennifer.
    :-)

    I edited my response.

I also use clear sheet protectors.

I've added an old photo of me, on my tribe album. (I don't think I'll leave it up long).
    Not my best.

Thanks Zana, I'll be able to sleep tonight after all (despite the bruises caused by kicking myself!)
