I have made a wonderful purchases today, and I had to share:
Sally Hansen has a foot treatment that claims to remove tough, calloused skin in minutes. It sells at my Wal-Mart for a little over $6.00, and it is in a small white box with the pedicure items. After years of going at it with a pumice stone, sloughing cream, and occasional pedicures-and STILL having bad feet, I thought I would give it a go.
This stuff ROCKS. It says on the box not to not leave it on your foot for longer than 1 minute, and I believe it. You just put some of the gel on your foot, rub it in the rough, hard spots for one minute, and wash it off quickly. I swear it EATS it off. ..l;,

Re: Awesome foot find for rough, calloused feet
Ooh, kinda scary but sounds like it does the job. What are the ingredients?
Can you use it if your feet are cracked/bleeding?

Re: Awesome foot find for rough, calloused feet
I use something similar...
Dr. Scholl's Pedicure Essentials - rough skin remover.
I'm always amazed how much "stuff" rubs off and how soft my heels feel afterwards.

Qamar-
That photo is EXACTLY what I bought!
Azhia-
I believe that it says not to use on open wounds/bleeding skin...I hope that helps!

Re: Awesome foot find for rough, calloused feet
Huh. I've been wondering about this myself; years of wandering around barefoot on lava rock hasn't exactly made my feet gorgeous (especially considering I think feet are weird in general and tend to think of them as things that help me stand upright). LOL I will look into this.

Yikes! What's in it? I'd be scared to put something on my body that eats flesh...
Burts Bee's makes a really nice foot cream. It doesn't work quite as fast but you definitely see a major difference in about a week. I put it on at night and then put some socks on over it. And it smells like coconuts. ..g.:

Re: Awesome foot find for rough, calloused feet
Since I was unable to find the Sally Hansen foot cream anywhere in Montreal (and probably Quebec province
) I have purchase the Dr Scholl rough skin remover and it also work very well. After I rub the cream on the rough parts of my feet I rub the excedent it with a pumice stone.
Kash 13: the box says that it can also be use on rough knees and elbows as well!
Good scrub to everyone! ..l;,

Hm...bought this and tried it. No haole feet for me, those Hawaiian calluses stay right on. Am I doing something wrong?

Is this one of these products that sloughs off the dead skin in general? Those are amazing...

Re: Awesome foot find for rough, calloused feet
Brea, same here. It didnt work for me either. I might have even left it on *ahem* for longer than a minute. Maybe its just the reef/lava rock walking. I am a fan of the good old foot razor, its still the only thing that works for my VERY calloused feet. Oh well, it could be worse.

Re: Awesome foot find for rough, calloused feet
Did you just rub it on, or did you actively rub it into the roughest areas for the 1 minute? I did my feet one at a time, so that I could concentrate on each foot (rubbing the heel and ball areas where they are hard) for the entire minute.
I also did this twice-with three days in between. (Not supposed to do it more than 2x a week.)
I have tried the Burts Bees stuff, the Bath & Body Works Shea Creams, professional pedicure creams...everything. I always wear socks to bed after I cream up, and they are all good for the moisture, but they don't do anything for the hard calloused skin at all.
Give it a few more tries-if you are walking on lava rock, you probably have more buildup than most. It might take a little longer for you to see results.

Re: Awesome foot find for rough, calloused feet
I rubbed it around a lot. It's YEARS of walking on lava. I've stepped on beads, pins, nails, etc and nothing happens because of all those years of wandering the lava. In a way I suppose it's good because I have tough hobbit feet (not the hairy kind!) but also looks rough and indelicate for dancing...I'll give it a few more tries first.

Re: Awesome foot find for rough, calloused feet
Oh, when recommending the Burts Bees I should've mentioned that I also do the foot razor at the end of every winter! Probably would've been helpful to add that...
Mine were so calloused and cracked after this winter that I was beginning to worry that I had diabetes or something. ,f:: They looked like the pictures on the packages for all the diabetic foot products.

Re: Awesome foot find for rough, calloused feet
Okay, this is the most hilarious thread. I love how open everyone is to talking about their jacked-up feet and freaky callouses. ..l;,
What do you use to rub this stuff into your feet? I imagine it would eat the flesh right off your fingers if you used bare hands. Also, where can I find a foot razor? I'm noticing that salons around here are not using them anymore, only files and that just doesn't do a good enough job for me.

Re: Awesome foot find for rough, calloused feet
Oh, I used my bare hands (washed them right away though). I'm actually rather proud of my feet; I know very few people who can walk on the kinds of things I do without causing serious damage, but I know that they are supposed to be all cute for the dancing. ..g.:

Re: Awesome foot find for rough, calloused feet
Hey Malia, you can find the foot razors at any drug store, target etc. In the manicure/pedicure section. If you buy one make sure that you SOAK your feet and use caution, they are no joke. Also, buy extra razor blades and change them often. A new sharp razor works so much better and you have more control. Start out just taking off a little for your first time, wait a couple of days and take off a little more. These things are dangerous but sooo useful for those of us with human shoes.
My best friend/dance partner was here in Hawaii on vaction to visit me and we had a night of beauty on Friday night. We gave each other pedicures, dyed our hair, did skin treatments etc. It was so fun! Like a good old slumber party. So my point is, after the lovely pedicure she gave me I used the Sally Hansen product again and it worked to soften my feet more. The initial rough callouses were removed and I think it worked better on the little rough bits that were left.
Ps I love that we can all discuss our gnarly feet too! I actually agree with Brea, I can walk on hot sand, dance barefoot on outdoor stages and reef walk with my tough feet. I just like them to look a bit prettier for dancing. Its all about finding the happy medium.

Re: Awesome foot find for rough, calloused feet
Hi samira-
Yes, those of us living/who have lived in HI will never have 'haole feet' again, I don't think! I would like to have them look nice for dancing though. And after moving back to the cold north all winter, my feet are finally free of shoes again and they are not looking so handsome.
Still, I'd rather be able to walk across hot sand and such any day. *sigh* I miss Hawai'i. I will be over there to teach a workshop sometime this year though.

Re: Awesome foot find for rough, calloused feet
I will check at the store next time I'm there. I've just been using tiny scissors to do the job, and then a really rough pumice to smooth the edges out. But I think a razor would be easier.
Samira, how the heck do you reef walk!? My first visit to Hawaii, first day on the beach, I stepped on rocks and right into a patch of vana. Ouch! It hurt for the next three months!
