Thread: Source for and ideas for tops.

My troupe has decided that instead of doing ATS for group therapy (old thread), we would give Thatib a shot...pun intended. Why do you have a black eye?? I have been belly dancing.

I am trying to find a source (or an idea) for a thigh length tops that are cane friendly..inexpensive, and come in 10 different colors to be worn with hip scarves. I was thinking about lurex veils sewn into a sort of poncho ... but cant find a good source for them any more. Does anyone have any other ideas?

I just looked at the Moondance website and they have the lurex veils, though I don't know anything about how long shipping would take. Have you thought of making them? It wouldn't take much to make tunic tops, especially if the troupe got together to make them. I suggest at least three sewing machines for that many costumes because we had two plus a serger when we made our tops and one of the machines went wonky. The cutting out process went really fast, so the more machines, the better. New Look and Stitch n' Save have inexpensive patterns that would translate well to what you're looking for, especially the second company as their designs are very simple. Do a test garment first in an similar weighted fabric to see if it would work as a dance top. What's great about making them yourself is that you can make them any length you want. I wish we were closer....I'd help you out.

Moondance - yep been there. Their colors are limited. Dahlal has more but hokey smokes they are $30 a piece...

Does Dahlal still have those inexpensive Pakistani scarves? Those were gorgeous.

Here's what they look like sewn together into a long caftan; just one would make a great tunic, I think, and they're only $12.

Bellydancewithk.com usually has pailette dresses for around $30--I can't seem to access the website right now, but it would be worth checking out.

YES!..I looked for those scarves after seeing them in the dancer design section..but couldnt find them. Thanks for locating them for me. The pailette dress was a good idea too, but I was looking for something a little more "edgy"
