making a bra- hot glue rocks
I just wanted to say...to whoever mentioned this before...
I am totally loving using hot glue in between the bra cups to reinforce the wire/strap! It is awesome. It has made covering bras so much easier for me!
THANK YOU!

Re: making a bra- hot glue rocks
Really? Where exactly are you using it? I'll be covering a bra soon and I need all the good advice I can get!

Re: making a bra- hot glue rocks
i think it was on one of the sahar threads and I just remember vague descriptions, so I'm not sure I did it exactly how they mentioned!
I just used the regular bra fitting (between the cups) and hot glued some jeans material around it and to the bottom of the cups to hold it together better.
It was nice because I liked the distance already and I didn't have to cut anything apart or re-figure everything out!
remember tho- you can't sew through hot glue, so covering the center is different and don't expect to sew anything through that piece- I just sewed around it because it was fairly thin and I just wrapped leather around it for my tribal bra
:) good luck. experiment on a cheap bra!

Re: making a bra- hot glue rocks
I tried using the foam material between the cups the last time I made a costume bra and really liked it. Haven't tried the glue, though - yet.

Re: making a bra- hot glue rocks
I've made a few now, I've found the best way (for me) is to buy a ready made t-shirt bra, cut everything off the cups and make a new centre piece from plastic boning which I hot glue to each cup to join.

Re: making a bra- hot glue rocks
good idea firefly. I haven't actually even removed the centerpiece. I try to buy bras that I like the placement of the cup and also just have the thin wire in the center of the bra (obviously covered with fabric)
but then I just load on the hot glue, cover with jeans material and then whip stitch (or glue if I'm in a hurry) felt so I can at least sew through it a little.
I haven't tried anything foam either kiyaana, but it seems interesting.
I converted and covered a bra yesterday in around 40 minutes- my best time yet! actually probably the most elegant, cheapest costume I've ever made. I posted a picture of the bra in the what you are working on thread. There is more that needs to be done, but I am guessing the whole costume will take less than 3 hours.
I am making it with a friend so we have very similar (not matching) costumes. and hopefully some day we'll have a super cute duet :) it is funny how the costumes comes first and the dance comes second :)

Re: making a bra- hot glue rocks
I found some foam stuff that is thin and doesn't stretch too much at JoAnn Fabrics in the home fabrics section. Looking at post #40 in this thread http://www.bhuz.com/forum/fitness-be...ra-made-2.html gives an idea of what to look for.

I found the foam stuff at Joanns.
For anyone who is looking for it, it is called Headliner sku #9198672 and is $12.99 per yard. It came in different colors also.

Re: making a bra- hot glue rocks
I just repaired a bra with buchram..it's like super stiff felt and it was easy to sew through (by hand, heh, heh, heh). I haven't tried the glue trick yet but I thought I'd pass this along.

Re: making a bra- hot glue rocks
I love my hot glue gun!
usually I hand sew everything when making a costume, but a couple of months ago, I had 3 days to replicate a costume for a duet performance. I started sewing the fringe on by hand, but after 3am rolled around, I knew I had to find a faster way. Hot glue gun to the rescue!
This entire costume, except for the chiffon underskirt and one row of fringe, was hot glued together. It has held up through a stage performance and 4 restaurant sets so far. I'll let you gals know when it starts to fall apart.
Sorry for the huge pics! *this costume is actually grape-purple, not blue*

Re: making a bra- hot glue rocks
super cool.... I must try putting my fringe on with hot glue....
is there any way to destroy hot glue? I wonder if some sort of chemical would "melt" it....haha
I just know how many sewing mistakes I have made, it'd be baaad to do that with hot glue ( and find out after it dries)

Re: making a bra- hot glue rocks
After seeing this, and eying the unfinished bedlahs strewed around me, I think I am going stock up on glue sticks ;) I thought about this though, I am not gluing any crystals or around where hooks would go just so I can get through later if I need to move them or something-just keep that in mind I guess!!! Awesome-and I am loving the glitterdot ish fabric-a lot of people don't like it, but I am LOVING it. Good job on the fly!
