Attaching Half circle veils to fans

Anyone know how to attach large half circle veils to fans like the ones on Meleea's website? Have you done it yourself?? I have searched the archives but I can't seem to find a description of how this is physically done. Does it ruin the veils or can you take them off later? Thanks!

I've seen the veil fans, they're very cool. But I'm not sure it's a regular half-circle veil that's attached to them...is it?

I don't know anyone who's made their own. I'm sure it's possible, but I don't know what shape the silk is cut into.

The silk is generally a rectangle for the long ones because the frame of the fan can hold it all open at once, but for some of the smaller ones I have seen little half-circles.

I don't make my own fan veils right now, but I wouldn't think you could attach and detach the veil portion easily. All of mine are glued to the tines of the fan pretty well.

Hope this helps a little :)

I have her video and I used her method. She uses rectangular pieces, and they aren't as wide as veils, but I'm sure you could figure out how to do it, if you really wanted that much weight on your fans. She uses a really strong glue and you wouldn't be able to take the fabric off.

If you want to be able to salvage the fabric later, I would think you could sew them on, but you run the risk of tears in the fabric. I would just make it permanent.

Hi, I have a fan-veil & love it, and I have the video & the staves to make the fans...from looking closely at the one I have, I think you could take a rectangle plus a small square of very fine mm silk (you can buy silk at dharma trading company and dye it whatever color you want using regular old RIT dye). Anyway, you just open the fan staves & glue the silk on one side, then glue the smaller piece on the other side. I wouldn't think you can remove the silk without ruining it. But silk dyed yourself is cheap! (about $3.00 a yard)!
