what lengths for circle skirt panels?
I think i've asked this before but...
if i were to offer silk circle skirt panels, what size and length should they be?
one would be the half circle shape in front and the back one would be two half circles sewn together to make the back panel (i'm using Belly Dancing -- Art Of Middle Eastern Dance -- Bellydancing in Iowa City her example)
I dont have much interest in making the complete finished sewn product, just the dyed panels so that someone else can alter them and add their own elastic, so they would be hemmed and finished and have the waistband opening so someone could add elastic on their own..i just want to offer the dyed panels
would like to offer two lengths (maybe three with a lot of arm twisting)
what two lengths would best accomodate dancers? one for petite and one for tall
with the full understanding that the dancer may have to have the skirt altered upon receiving
will be made in heavy habotai silk like a 10 mm
if i'm totally nuts may also offer in charmeuse silk but the price would be more since charm silk is much pricier too
thoughts on lengths?
33 inch and 39 inch?

Re: what lengths for circle skirt panels?
It seems like I see alot of 36 inch length costumes/skirts on the swap meet - which I think is average - the average woman (last I heard) was about 5'4" tall which would usually be around a 36" skirt length.
Hate to admit it but I'm "Average" ----- ohhh, no I'm not!Last edited by Surida; 05-22-2008 at 02:41 PM.

I think 36 is the standard, but it is too short for me. I would prefer at least 38 inches if possible.

Re: what lengths for circle skirt panels?
I am not a big fan of making circle skirts, but if the incentive is nicely colored, I may actually do it ;-)
For me, a finished length of 36 or 37 inches is desirable, and I like to have a waist circumference for 43 inches (goes well over the behind, and I can use a piece of cotton broadcloth as waistband). 33 is too short for me, 39 is too long.
For a 1-circle skirt to fit my body, the half circle would have to have a radius of 7 inches for the hole in the middle, and then an overall radius of 37+7 = 44 inches.
I love it when math and bellydance come together ;-)

Really, three lengths would work best, 34" petite, 37" average, and 40" tall.
If you go with two with two lengths, then 36" petite/average and 39" tall.
If an inch of extra length is needed, an extension could be added to the top - I've done this before. AND if extra length needs to be taken up, the option could be to stuff the extra material inside a casing, or to cut off the panel from the top.

I think 33 is very short. A 36 and a 39 would best accomodate people probably, especially if you designed the color pattern to allow trimming and hemming at the bottom.

Re: what lengths for circle skirt panels?
I have bought your skirts before. I believe they have usually been 36" in the past. Which tends to be a smidge too long. But not unhemmable. ie: to hem would ruin the pattern.
I do know a few people who love your skirts but are asking for 38".

Re: what lengths for circle skirt panels?
so when i dye the suckers i should def. leave enough color room on either side for you to alter it? should i bother with the waistband casing and the bottom hem or just do half circle shapes with raw edges?

Re: what lengths for circle skirt panels?
I think that would be up to the individual who bought them. I wouldn't have any problem putting it on a waist band or hemming it. others might. definately leave enough colour on the bottom to hem.
