Re: "Belly Dance" costume???
Somebody over on tribe was trying to flesh out a "Gangsta Ghawazee" look, which was pretty strange, but this is worse!

Re: "Belly Dance" costume???
Actually, I think it's an NDC costume, from the number they did at RakW last year.

Re: "Belly Dance" costume???
Makes me think it would be something that a dancer in the BDSS would wear. She's had some interesting costumes.

Re: "Belly Dance" costume???
I don't care for this particular incarnation, but Aubre of BDSS wore something quite similar for a Fosse Fusion piece and looked SMOKIN'. The pants were a little more fitted/bootcut, though, and the top was more or less a tailored halter/vest.
Then again, Aubre's body is so ripped and her style is so slick, she can do ghawazee fusion in lederhosen to German drinking music, and probably still look smashing.

Re: "Belly Dance" costume???
Okay, I had no idea it was used by a BD troupe. That would explain it!
I just came across it randomly and totally didn't get the connection.

Re: "Belly Dance" costume???
Thanks for posting the Youtube, Latifa. Yes, that costume was designed to be appropriate to the "theme" of the number. We were going for a 40s look, a totally gangster feel. It definitely fit the vibe, with our fedoras and canes.
It's a very comfortable costume and lovely to dance in.

Re: "Belly Dance" costume???
Actually, Michala, if you'll read earlier responses, you'll see that this costume was designed for a very particular themed performance, which was a bit of a 40s/jazz fusion piece. We would never think that showing the belly is good enough to make it a bellydance costume. ;-)

Re: "Belly Dance" costume???
Never really saw the fascination with the whole missing leg thing.
Random association.....
The pants remind me of an episode of 'You Can't Do That On Television' (yah, I'm old...) when it was trendy for everyone to cut off the right leg of their pants - halfway through the show, it became passe to have the right leg missing and 'in' to have only the left leg cut off.
