    Desperately Seeking Sexy Caftans

....Or is sexy caftan, perhaps, an oxymoron? Often baggy, blousy, gaudy and ill-fitting, caftans are my least favorite item in the costuming world....as necessary of an evil as they may be.

Where can a girl find a coverup that's figure flattering, elegant, and totally befitting of an Old Hollywood movie star lounging in her swank dressing room?

    Re: Desperately Seeking Sexy Caftans

Au contraire, mon amie....the sexiness of the turquoise peacock has made me realize how UNsexy all my old caftans really were! My past two gigs, people actually thought that WAS my costume!

Alas, I'd like a rotation of coverups that gorgeous, as turquoise doesn't always go with everything, and I'm anal about matching colors. God forbid a little flash of olive green hemline peeks through .

Now, if I could find that caftan in 3-4 other colors and hang 'em all up in my closet, Marge Simpson style. Where did you get the peacock coverup, anyway?

Ooooooooooooh....perfect. I was cruising the internet for a red caftan to go with my 3 recent red purchases (and your orange "flame" costume! hahaha) and everything looked so unsavory and tentlike.

I just might be able to negate this entire question if I can purchase the same exact thing in 4 colors! (My mom instilled this neurosis in me: if she likes a particular T-shirt, she'll buy 4 of each, in half a dozen different colors. Just a psychiatric footnote). So gonna check out Audrenas now....happy day ..l;,

I have a child sized red and gold brocade I have been super reluctant to send into the modification blender. I even have the fringe ready for it in red and gold. It is of the same, if not better, quality than the Artemis ones. I would rather sell it to you than send it to the chop shop. It is a stunning example of a Persian style coat. Birds and flowers with a hand woven border.

Hee! In one of my incarcerations at a newspaper, we handled Dillards ads. About twice a season, in the summer, would come a completely hideous ad (black and white of course) touting the merits of those ungodly Muu Muus. The rep who handled the Dillards account used to joke with me about getting out there early to be the first to ooh and aaah and have the best selection. Interesting consumer note: These are now called, by Dillards at least, "Patio Dresses." God, so hideous, the prints dredged up from some 50s grandmother hell, the atrocious Peter Pan collars, the ghastly patch pockets you could put a ham in!! Run Away!! .w.:

If anyone ever find me on a Patio, or anywhere else, wearing one of these, it means my brain and will is gone and somebody PUT me in it. And probably rolled my hair, too.

I have that same gene too: buy something that looks great, fits great, in all the colors. You save yourself lots of grief, and time, that way.

    Whadaya think, Lise?

    It's cute!

Deciding if I want to be in line if you pass. I don't do red but as a cover up it would do (since I'm out of everything!)...

You say it's child sized, A?

She had a whole table full when I saw her. I remember so many vendors carrying them. You may want to contact Audrena and find out, Emma-Bessa. They are really beautiful and are made of velvet adorned with sequins, fringes, beads, in peacock design. They do look like costumes themselves!
