Adding a modesty panel to a split in dress
I just bought this dress:
I really like it, but I am not a fan of showing a lot of my legs while dancing and I was thinking of adding a panel of fabric that just hangs down from the top of the split in the dress.
Any tips on how to do that? The dress is red with silver beading, rhinestones and some turquoise accent beads on the bra--a not too overpowering silver or turquoise might be kind of cool.

Oh, that's a beautiful dress!!!
I'd cut a pie shaped piece of fabric for the insert.
Or, you might try a few matching strands of beading (or beaded farbic) across the opening with heavy duty thread, like the straps on the hip.
If you go with the fabric panel I'd serge the fabric edge.
Then sew the fabric panel by hand, to the lining.Last edited by gothique; 05-31-2008 at 08:01 PM. Reason: forgot to add instructions

I'd go with a half circle of chiffon or light silk and just attach it to the inside top of the slit. Sew it down the sides of the slit just enough to keep your legs as covered as you feel like.

1/2 circle does sound better, I was thinking of a fat slice of pie....

The fat slice of pie shape seems like it would make sense--so light silk (maybe silk essence from Joanne's fabric) or chiffon...okay. Tomorrow I go to the fabric store!
Thanks you guys...I'm pretty inept when it comes to sewing.
