    06/01/08 - Hermes sandals laces

Have any of you replaced the laces in your Hermes sandals with ribbon or something that stays tied better than the original laces? I once took a workshop with Fathiem (years ago) and she said to replace with them something...I can't remeber what!
    Any advice,
    Thanks!

Beige or gold elastic tied into a knot and trimmed works like a charm.
Stretch 'em and slip 'em on. No tying or knots or fuss.

I've done the elastic thing too and I have to agree the best decision - I tried it first with just beautiful silver lacing, but the elastic is the best, you can just slip them on and they don't come untied and try to trip you.

When Fahtiem and I were both taking Bobby Farrah's workshops, I think she was using metallic gold soutache braid for her sandals. It looked much better than the original tan color.

How cool I never thought of putting elastic in them. I"ll check out the soutache braid as well.
    THANK YOU!!!

I have used silk ratttail cord - great because it comes in so many colors and it's very lustrous and pretty. BUT it's very slippery and you have to double knot it.

I've tried thin soutache braid - looks very elegant. BUT if it's really thin and you tie it tight it can be uncomfortable.

I've tried thin flat elastic knotted or sewn closed - you definitely won't have to worry about it coming undone. BUT I don't like the look as much as something with some shine to it, and I also like the look of the elastic wrapping around my ankle once and with the pre-knotted elastic it was always a pain to get the extra loop all untangled the right way to put the shoe on, and then to smooth everything out so it lies flat.

my current favorite thing is round gold elastic - the same stuff they use to wrap around boxes of chocolates, know what I mean? you don't need to lace it super tight, and the texture of the gold thread that wraps the elastic holds nicely when you knot it. I can just tie it in a single knot and bow (like a shoelace) and it holds tight.

whatever you try, get a 3 yard length and cut the piece in half for your two laces. you may only need 1 yard for each shoe, but better to have too much than not enough and having to run to the fabric store again.
