Thread: Keeping your hair on?

Hi Everyone,

I recently purchased a 3/4 wig from Forever Young, (the one with the integrated headband), and I absolutely love it! However, with a strong head toss, I can easily imagine the hair piece flying off of my head and into an audience member's lap, or entree, or what-have-you.

What is the best way to secure it? 10,000 bobby-pins, combs, glue? Help please!!

(Right now my hair is just past my ears, so there is something to pin it too...)

Attach small combs around the circumference of the hair piece.

Make little ponytails or buns out of your existing hair about where you intend to hook the hair piece into. then fit the combs to the ponytials/buns. Then add a bazilllion hair pins!

If your hair easily slips out of ponytail holders and for more security, you can backcomb + hair spray your ponytails (and then make little buns if you want).

The best way to brush through backcombing is to use a paddle brush. Brushes through like magic.

Thanks Azhia! My hair is a bit slippery :( Paddle brushes really work then? I am always afraid of back combing after some really bad bridesmaid experiences...LOL

Ooh, I'm sorry to hear that. It can be scary and bad for the hair if done improperly. My friend in cosmetology school and I would pride ourselves on winning big ass hair competitions.

Spray the section at the root, and then backcomb. There are wonderful brushes that are like skinny grooming brushes with a point at the bottom of the handle for sectioning; that's what I use to backcomb, I no longer use rattail combs.

Also, when you back comb, rather than driving the brush straight down towards the root, treat the hair like it's lace and use a circular motion downwards. Hard to describe (shameless plug: I plan to include backcombing in the makeup DVD).

Then when it's time to comb it out with the paddle brush, gently work your way from the bottom of the hair shaft to the root. Paddle brush really saves the day (and your hair) from back comb hell; it also helps to brush product out of the hair before shampooing. ..c::

They stay very well on backcombed or/and sprayed hair,
my own tresses is limp+thin+slippery and I can even do khaleegy in my 3/4 wigs!

Crossing fingers, toes, eyes, Fallopian tubes for August.

and also, if you use hair pins, try making little "x"s around the circumference with the pins so they are even more secure

I have done khaleegi hair tosses in a 3/4. They stay on better if don't wear them on freshly washed hair. So I plan for my hair to be slightly dirty and make several braids of my own hair that I pin to my head Then anchor the fall to the hair under the braids and use hairpins.

*way* easier to use than 3/4 falls. way more comfortable. way less hot. way quicker to put in.

Thanks! And probably very true, but i am such an incessant hair washer. My whole mood is spoiled if my hair is dirty, or flat, or fuzzy, or whatever. If i have a sinus problem or head cold it is always flat...go figure...

Pretty superficial but it is one of those things that I just can't get over...old dog new tricks kind of thing...But thanks! the braids sound like a good idea!

you can also find those called "wig comb clips" and they are the bomb. om my 3/4 caps I sew two along the top near my temples and two along the bottom behind my ears. the combs that come attached to the wig aren't enough to hold it secure. they're also great to sew onto your headbands to keep them from slipping or falling off - better than bobby pins and they don't show.

for the most secure fit, the band of the wig needs to be nice and snug. I have a smallish head, so on my head-tossing wigs I will pinch a half inch or so of the edge of the cap on each side, fold it flat and sew it down. I make a tiny ponytail at the top of my head and one at the nape to anchor the wig's combs onto (I don't blend my own hair over the wig). I place the bottom comb first usually, and then stretch it up and anchor the top comb. clip the clips and I'm good.
