My very first ever handmade costume...
Okay I am so excited. I actually made a costume from scratch. Well, not the skirt, but the bra & belt. I DO NOT sew at all, so this costume (with some hand-stitched reinforcement) is completely glued together (don't laugh too hard). Now it's time to shimmy & shake and see how well hot glue holds up... ha ha ha! What do you think??

It's VERY cute. I think you owe it to yourself to learn how to thread a needle, you've obviously got some design talent. (I totally taught myself how to sew when I started bellydancing. It's not that hard, really -- though who knows if I'm doing it right?!?!)

Congrats on the costume. It's very cute! Still, I'd have to echo Lauren in working on sewing skills - not so sure how the glue will hold up, but I'll cross my fingers for you!
You should be proud!

Re: My very first ever handmade costume...
Very cute! I would recommend doing some basic hand stitching to hold the bits in place - especially if you are in a warm climate. I once saw a dancer who had glued her costume dancing in Florida outside - and the glue started to melt and things began falling off. A few carefully placed stitches should help keep that from happening.

Bravo, Sonja2!!! You've totally inspired me to try your methodology; I, too, cannot sew (OK-barely! I can sew hooks on:)).

Lauren, you are doing it right if it fits and nothing falls off. ..g.:

Very pretty indeed! I like it.
If you really can't face sewing and fancy being a complete costume-heathen, then reinforce it with the stapler and then glue appliques over the sharp bits! It'll get rusty when you wash it though!

Re: My very first ever handmade costume...
Congrats! I know the fear of sewing cause I am making my first as well and had to learn how to use a sewing machine(2 packages of needles later). I did have a small advantage that I already knew how to bead tho. Don't be afraid. Just get a lot of scrap fabric and play around until you get the look you want. Keep in mind, most people are never going to see the inside so it is only important that the stitching on the outside looks good!

As one fellow non-sewer to another, FANTASTIC!! Not only do I not sew, I am very un-crafty, so I admire your talent. It looks great with the purple skirt ;) Good for you Sonja
