Quick ATS/tribal costuming?
I've been taking ATS classes for a few months for fun, and I was invited to dance at an informal performance tomorrow evening. It's super casual, so I can wear my practice pants & shirt, but I don't really have any tribal accessories. I have maybe one hipscarf that could work, but everything else is bright and sparkly.
Does anyone have any ideas for relatively inexpensive accessories I could make before tomorrow night?

I think WalMart sells a super cheap line of "tropical" or "ethnic" looking costume jewelry. What is it; "Trader Joe" or something? Maybe you could buy a bunch of those necklaces and hang or loop them onto your costume.

Re: Quick ATS/tribal costuming?
This might not be possible before tomorrow night, but if you are near any store that sells Indian or South Asian home decor items, you could pick up a toran (which is a tapestry door hanging with tapered hanging parts, many times covered in shisha mirror embroidery) to wear as a belt. Do you live near a Ten Thousand Villages? They usually carry torans, although you will probably be able to find one cheaper if you happen to live near a place that specifically caters to South Asian clientele. If you are feeling especially adventurous you could make tassels to attach to the pointy bits (tassels work up quicker than you'd imagine...)

Thrift stores sometimes have nice huge pendants.
I also check the belt section for metal belts, that I can take apart.

World Market has nice and fairly inexpensive ethnic jewelry.

I was at Michael's the other day and was surprised by how many tribal-friendly beads and pendants they now have. There was a whole section with a particular name . . .
I second the World Market recommendation, if there's one close to you.

Shisha and beaded belts on the high street.
Fringe trimmed belts or fringed shawls.
Hooped earings.
One cotton or silk scarf twisted into a head wrap
Large cheap costume jewellery rings
Toe rings
Cuff bracelets made faux bone/horn/shell
Big shell and bead necklaces that have beem fashionable
chop an old T shirt into a crop top

Thanks for all the ideas! There is a World Market and a Michael's near me, I'm about to head over there.
