My new (old) costume
I bought this costume this evening from one of my dance classmates. She's been dancing for a long time, and bought it about 10 years ago from another St Louis dancer. I am guessing it is ~10-15 years old. I know epaulettes are out of favor right now, but I just *love* how over the top it is. And the color... it's a rich tangerine with bronze fringe and AB crystals. And the beading is 3-dimensional and intricate.
Anyway, she brought it out, and I fell head-over-heels in love with it! Absolutely twitterpatted! She asked me what I thought of it, and I wrote her a check on the spot, before she had time to reconsider!
It is in perfect condition, doesn't need any work to speak of. Just setting the hooks in the back, and on the neck straps. (In the picture, there are skinny neck straps that are basically just sitting loose under the shoulder straps, those are actually a halter strap, it just doesn't have hooks in place right now.)

I am usually anti-epaulet--but that's retro-hotness!

Oh that is WAY too cool!!! I love the asymmetry of it. (Personally, I'd be tempted wear it with a skirt of an entirely different color from the set to really show it off, like seafoam or teal.) ..l;,

"Twitterpatted"? Tee hee... Now I know how to describe that love-at-first-sight costume lust.
Lovely costume. You were right to pounce on it!

Re: My new (old) costume
Thanks everyone! And don't worry, the epaulet is not going anywhere!
I had not even considered seafoam/teal/turquoise, but you guys are right, it would look hot! I've got a velvet trumpet skirt in robin's egg blue that might work.
I've been going crazy with skirt possibilities, though... I think it would look great with leopard print (or even tiger print if the shades were right?). And I think I'll need to get some chiffon circle skirts to get the full retro look. (Especially since I lost 20 pounds and actually want people to see my legs now!)

I love it! Says the resident Vintage bedlah fan! Now, when it is done visiting your closet, let it know it can come and live in mine!
