    Muscle Problem ...

My calf muscle went into spasm about 1.5 hours into a Randa Kamel workshop, and I danced in it for another 6 hours that weekend. It's like it went into a really tight knot as if I was tensing it. Anyhow, that was at the weekend, and we are now on Friday on the following week, and it is still tensing and releasing by itself (you know like some muscles do when you are really tired). What can I do to make it 'snap out of it'. I have a really busy and physical hill walking and mountain biking week next week that's been planned for ages, and I am worried it'll go into the little ball again...

Reading your post made my hair stand on end - I had a similar problem - but I ended up tearing my calf muscle ... really badly. I now have bad scarring just above the achilles and have to really look after it. In my case, I had tightness and soreness, and a week later, snap (quite literally). My advice is to take it really easy, flat shoes for a whole week, no dancing on toes and get a massage. Rest, ice and elevation whenever it feels sore. Hope it comes right, I know how hard it is to slow down when you're a physically active person. I have torn several musces doing martial arts but can't give it up... it does affect my dancing sometimes though!
    Good luck

If it has gone on that long I would consider going to see a good sports massage therapist about it. I work with a guy who is also a personal trainer, and qualified as a sports massage therapist - another collegue was training for a marathon (fools) and was getting all sorts of pulled and knotted muscles, he worked wonders on them.

One question, were you doing a lot of work up on the toes?

Ditto this. You want someone with years of experience and special training in sports massage or pain management techniques, not someone who mostly does spa things like aromatherapy or hot stones. Mine specializes in Trigger Point Therapy, getting those chronic knots to release -- she's brilliant.
