Luminess Air or other airbrush makeup?

Has anyone tried something called Luminess Air or know someone who has? Or any other type of airbrush makeup that can be used at home? I need some serious help with foundation and wondered if airbrushing would work well. For everyday use I either don't bother or just use some mineral powder makeup, but for performing I need to find something that provides really good coverage without settling into lines and wrinkles.

    that's a damn good question!..g.:

i wonder if that's what azhia uses............i love the coverage and wondering how easy it is to use and what the initial cost investment would be.......AND how safe is it for really sensitive skin?

    Hola!

I have not heard of Luminess. Do you actually need an air brush machine to apply it? For my airbrush machine I use Temptu. Obsessive Compulsive and Kett are also trusted AB lines.

If not, check out silicone foundations. Face Atelier (you can order online) has an amazing line of silicone foundations that pro MUAs use (including myself; DeShawn Hatcher and Billy B. both use it--good enough for me!!).

Silicone fills lines and pores, its' the material in most primers so you'll have coverage w/o as much of the lines and pores showing.

Hi Azhia! It does have a machine but I saw it on an infomercial at 4 am so I'm skeptical, but it got me thinking that maybe airbrushing would be a good idea.
Maybe I'll try the silicone foundation first and see if that works. I have super oily skin, troubled, scarred, using prescription meds off and on to control breakouts for nearly 20 years now, and I've not been able to find anything that covers well enough without having to glop on a ton. Only to have it melt off the moment I start to sweat. ..c::
Thanks for the advice! Is your makeup DVD out yet?

    Haleema,

Hmmm...I've always wanted to try my own AB machine on myself but can't imagine how to do it with my eyes and nostrils shut. The woman with whom I trained can do herself but she has been doing it for like 30 years!

The air compressor should be 15 to 30 pounds per square inch (PSI). What is the main ingredient in the Luminess Air foundation?

I've had good results with AB'd or applied silicone foundation. Be sure to prep with the milk of magnesia if you can, that is really good for perspiration and troubled skin.

Makeup DVD will be released August 15. I'm working on the shot list as we write!

    Hi Azhia -

Application was one of my main concerns. Of course they make it look like it's the easiest thing ever (the magic of the infomercial!), but I just don't see how. And after reading your comment I really doubt it would be easy.

All I could find about the ingredients of the foundation is that it's water-based. Their website has lots of faq's mostly related to application (surprise) but I couldn't find an ingredients listing.

So Milk of Magnesia is a good way to prep the skin before putting on foundation? Just like with a cotton ball?

Is it expensive? I worry about water-based foundation. While it is good for troubled skin, perspiration would just wash it away.

Use a sponge to apply a thin layer of milk of magnesia, the plainest one you can find. Beyoncé gets it for concerts so that she doesn't perspire off her makeup. There is still going to be a certain amount of perspiration but I think it will help. It's also a good mattefier for oily skin. That + silicone should be pretty good combo. Let me know how it works for you if you try it!

Thanks, chica!! I'm on Face Atelier's site right now ordering some samples and I'll try the m.o.m. tomorrow night.

The price on the Luminess Air is about $230 for the standard system (1 speed w/ 4mm airbrush stylus) or about $300 for the pro (3 speeds w/ an 'upgraded' stylus). Both come with some foundation and the pro comes also with bronzer and blush.

I saw that same infomercial and after looking at the price of the Luminess Air I was shocked at how much it was.

I really like the Temptu S/B Foundations. I have only ever applied them to others and never tried to do my own face..though I believe with practice it would work out fine. I did cover some of my own veins on my legs once...

You don't need a fancy airbrush machine. I got mine on Craig's list along with an airbrush. A hobby air compressor has enough power for makeup.

Thanks Azhia! Applying milk of magnesia helped quite a bit with the shiny/melting makeup issue. I've also got some samples of silicone foundations coming from Face Atelier and I'm pretty excited to try it out.

Yes, it seemed pricey to me, even without knowing what the machines normally run. And since those who are experienced with airbrushing don't normally use it on their own faces, then I'm not going to try it.

I have a primer called photofinish from smashbox that I really like. It probably doesn't compare to airbrush etc... but I just thought I would mention it..It gives a good base
