Re: arches of feet really sore

NPR did a great story this morning. I think I have a mild case of it because my feet hurt as soon as I step on the ground in the morning. And sometimes when I dance, I get shooting pain in my arches (only when standing in one place). Although, I can walk for long periods of time without getting sore feet...it's just in those two instances where it hurts. I wore my sturdy dansko clogs today after hearing the story...

That's a good story. I have recurring PF; it's pretty much under control now but it was severe for a while. Using a balance board or wobble board (like one of these: Balance Boards from Fitter First ) will really help build up foot and ankle strength.

Also, don't forget that ice is your friend when your fascia are inflamed!

    Hey boobiful lady,

I have really high arches, too....had to wear special shoes as a little one, even...and I got some sandals a couple of months ago that are SO comfy. I think the link is Nomadic State of Mind: sandals and nomadic apparel, organic tshirts, hippie clothing, eco friendly shirts for guys and girls . No foot pain, even when I was walking all over Costa Rica. ..g.: They have some good social/environmental policies so you'll have street cred with the hippies in Pahoa, too.

As a belly and ballet dancer I get this a lot as well, though I think mine is more from being on pointe then anything else. What I have found helps is to use a theraband (most dance supply places carry them) to stretch the muscles under your arch. Sometimes they just get tight, especially if you have been dancing on the balls of your feet a lot (or on the tips of your toes in pointe shoes lol) But I agree that flip flops are bad, my physio forbade me from wearing them.
