FINE HAIR: What are your secrets for VOLUME???
Okay, since we're talking hair here, I didn't want to hijack the long hair post. But all my life I've had thin hair, medium amount of it. It's dk brown and to keep gray at bay I foil it-not lighter but brown which roughs up the hairshaft giving it more volume (a bit damaging I know). I have used just straight color before and yuck, my hair became a slippery flat horror. I invest in a good hair dresser, regular trims every 6 weeks, take vitamins etc. But have hit a dead end.
What are your fave products and techniques to achieve maximum thickness and volume? I run everyday and try to wash every other, but I have oily hair and it becomes a sweaty greasy mess. (If I'm staying home that day I won't wash it and just put it up in a hat) So let's just say for the purpose of this thread that I wash it daily.
Oooh I hate bellydancing with wimpy hair!..cr.:

I spray my roots with setting lotion before I blow dry. Oh and always set rollers with setting lotion, it's the best stuff.

LUSH:
"Big" Shampoo (makes hair squeaky clean, lovely scent, takes awhile to get used to the texture but it's awesome)
AVEDA:
Volumizing Conditioner (it's like a soft clay that imparts volume and moisture)
"Potion" at the root when dry
"Phomollient" Styling Foam (at the root while wet prior to styling or blow drying)
BUMBLE & BUMBLE
Mattefying hair spray (adds grip and texture)
Colored Hair Powder (so that you don't have to wash your hair every other day, which can be drying for fine hair)

I think sometimes you also just have to appreciate it--play up the shine or the length or the color or just go with it and flat iron it like crazy for a show or a night out to enhance it.
For dancing, when my hair was longer, I'd roller it, then barely comb out the rolls, just enough to get it into a good shape and then spray that sh*t with old skool hair spray so it would hold through the show. Then I had bigger hair for a little while, just for the stage.

clip in human hair extensions. Buy em at Sally Beauty; take em to your colorist to dye to match.
There is no magic fix for fine hair.

Damage = volume.
Dry it upside down.
Avoid oily products like mousse that will eventually make it go limp. Hairspray is still king.

Re: FINE HAIR: What are your secrets for VOLUME???
I have thin, limp and flat hair(very typical Scandinavian type),
so I feel your frustration!
Have loss from PCOS+lots of sweat glands in the scalp too...:´(
Almost*any* volume shampoo and conditioner work great with any volume leave in treatment(Head&Shoulders in a pinch)as long as you
only take the conditioner to the roots.
Root lift products and "bendable" hair sprays are our allies too;)
(Protein treatments like the CAT Protein Therapy and the Body Full series from Redken are expensive but good IMO)
Put hair on can size rollers while it dries,as already suggested by someone.
In Sweden we have a tool from Björn Axén called the Volumaster which essentially is a slim crimp iron-it works:
http://www.axens.se/main/p_volu_anv.html
It gives the same effect Björn(RIP) loved to see on straightened afro hair with curly root growth.
I´m sure any slim crimp iron can be used the same way,by crimping the non-visible underhair.

Re: FINE HAIR: What are your secrets for VOLUME???
We do a lot of camping so I am anxious to try the colored hair powder for sure. I am also off to hunt for the rest this week. Will let you all know how they work. (But first I must finish off the $$ Pureology products I bought. They're okay, but just now paled in comparison to what you just mentioned Azhia! Thanks. I bet you do great hair..g.:

hair piece also
and depending on the look you're going for, I tend to french braid my hair at night (dry it a little first and but in a sillicone-based product like BedHead) in two braids on a side part. When it dries overnight and you take it out, you get amazing texture and volume which you can heighten with some upside hairspray action
