Hi all,
I haver really long hair, down to my tailbone, and most of the time I have no idea of what to do with it. Leaving it down can be a sweaty nightmare and a ponytail I am not crazy about. I stink at making braids. Anyone have any hints on what else I can do with it. I have ordered some snoods, but best to have variety.

Re: hints for super long hair.
You could cut it.... ;-)
Try googling hairstyles for long hair--there are some neat "semi-braids" that look pretty easy. I managed a cute hairstyle for a gig using google...

Re: hints for super long hair.
I do a lot of buns if I don't want to mess with it, with sticks stuck through it. Also, there is this hairagami toy called "Hair Yoga". That's fun to play with to make crazy updos. I put it up into those claw clips into pseudo-french twists. I don't think ponytails work well for long hair because it gets dragged down, but braiding down the back of your neck works. I also do pigtails. I pull it half of it back with a clip, or pull back on both sides with little clips or barrettes. I like doing two little buns like little goat horns or something. I just love to play with long hair. Of course mine is only mid-back so far.

Re: hints for super long hair.
One simple thing is to do a ponytail at the top of your head, but instead of putting an elastic in, tie the while ponytail into a knot and snug the knot down to your scalp, then use small clips (or bobby pins, if your hair is light enough) to secure the knot. This way, the ponytail is very secure and does not get dragged lower, and looks very polished.
My hair is knee-length, and I do this style alot. You can also separate out "bangs" from the front before you knot, which softens the look.

I like the headband look that Ansuya often goes for. It still accentuates beautiful long hair, but keeps it off the face and gives it a little extra style.

Re: hints for super long hair.
Oh! For performance I just either use jeweled barrettes to pull the top half out of my face or I use headbands matching my costume. I hate getting it in my face when I dance, but I love having long hair spilling down my back. One of the reasons I grew my hair was so that I could dance _with_ it.

Re: hints for super long hair.
Do you wear your hair straight? Do you want waves or something that gives it more body?
07-03-2008 02:22 PM #12Re: hints for super long hair.
it's very straight. I have baby fine hair that won't hold curls for more than a few min.

Re: hints for super long hair.
Ok first off you have to use product in your hair, redken clean lift gel is lightweight, but gives nice body to hair, while hair is damp, put it into 2 Indian braids before you go to bed, then purchase a revlon waving iron,
Ulta.com - Cosmetics, Fragrance, Salon and Beauty Gifts you can also get them at walmart and target.
Use a thermal protection spray, redken hot shots, protects hair, helps keep the wave in, take out your braids in the morning, use the waving iron on the crown of your hair and the ends to make it blend in, don't brush it, just finger comb and use a light spray, I do this all the time, here is a pic of what it looks like, soft waves, and gives you volume, I have fine hair, but a lot of it, so the product is a must or it's just a waste of time.

Re: hints for super long hair.
Devona...you should be happy to have your OWN hair...and not extensions! Wow...what an accomplishment! I just took my extensions out...they were fun, but nothing like having long hair like yours!
I am also a big fan of a sexy "up-do" it looks classy and different when you dance more than one show a night!

Re: hints for super long hair.
Aradia,
I just followed your instructions and now have hair OUT TO HERE! My hair is thick and naturally wavy and I normally do a French braid while hair is damp so it is wavier when it comes down. But I got some curly hair shampoo and conditioner, towel dried hair, added product and did several smaller "Indian style" braids and then this morning used the crimping iron with heat setting product. Six hours later its still holding up well. Thanks for the tips!

i had extensions once. they were glued in. went to florida on vacation after getting them. learned glued in extensions and trying to get a tan don't mix. spent over an hour pulling them out. even longer getting all the melted glue out of my hair.

Re: hints for super long hair.
That glue stuff is the worst, I knew 2 girls that got some type of glue at home depot and did it themselves at home, well it was a mess and they couldn't get it out!!..l;, Drinking tequila and gluing hair in each others head with home depot glue is not real smart!!
Keratin protien bonds or hair locs are the safer way to go, heat and sun doesn't affect them!!

Thanks for the suggestions Aradia...
My hair is thin, wavy, and long, and it gets annoying at times.
BTW, I love Ulta!

Re: hints for super long hair.
I know a lot of girls in Tokyo with really long hair do a half ponytail and pin the excess all around their heads
Kinda like Mishaal does here. She also does some 1/2 bun stuff that's neat.
