Thread: Making an armpit opening or some cooling in a dress?

I bought a used saidi dress made of lycra and would like to put one of those openings in the armpits to make it breathe better. Any hints on how to go about deciding the size of the hole, where it should be, all that?

Or does someone have an idea other than this for making the dress cooler to wear?

All you need to do is unpick the armhole seam to maybe a couple of inches either side of the side seam, and finish.

Costumes that are pre-made this way often have ending shape of the opening oval-like. They often look like someone drew an oval under the armpit of the costume and then cut out the shape. How would you get to that point using this method? Or does this method come out with a different shape?

Well, you could simply cut an oval if you wanted to. But generally, when you raise your arm and there's a slit, you get an oval looking shape.
