Saroyan are definatly great zills, and you can listen to sound clips on the website so you can hear the differences between each type before you buy them.

    Re: Soroyan Zills???

The two companies that most people have their zills from are Saroyan and Turquoise, Int.

The Saroyans have more of a lingering ring to them. Which is good for something and not for others. Too much ringing from too many zills at the same time could get muddied sounding.

Each Saroyan zill in a set should have the same sound. In Turquoise each zill may have a slightly different tone. So with Turquoise you could put the deeper tones in the same set on one hand the the higher tones in the same set on the other hand--especially if you definitely play r-l-r-l patterns it has some variety. Because of a neck injury I have a hard time getting my fingers to alternate that fast so I tend to play rr--ll. Saroyans work better for me cause of that.

Turquoise are brass. Saroyans are also brass but you can get silver ones, which have a lighter sound and do not need to be polished.

I have small silver Saroyan Arabesques, the larger pro Arabesques in brass, and new favorites are great big Jim Boz custom Saroyans--big guys with 3 brass and 1 silver in the set and Jim' special scarab design.

you guys are so sweet !

I will for sure go with the ARABESQUE II , is german silver better or the brass?
This is what he said on his web page :

Q: What is the difference between the solid brass cymbals and the German silver alloy cymbals?
A: The German silver alloy cymbals have a higher tone than its brass counterparts because of its nickel and silver content.

I still dont know which would be best probably the more expensive onein german silver? thanks so much again!!

In my opinion, soroyan are the cadilac of zils. I have almost every set he has made for almost every occassion that I would need them for.

Where do you plan on using yours? On stage, outdoors, inside...? That makes a difference as to size and materials.

Listen to the sound examples on the site and you will hear the difference between silver and brass. Silver is more expensive because it is a more expensive metal, not because there is any difference in the quality or workmanship.

I have Arabesque in both brass and silver. Basically, the brass are a "C" note and the silver are "F". So, higher. The same key, different notes.
