Help me find this kind of skirt...
Ok, let's try this again - I'm now on my wife's computer after I spilled lemonade on my keyboard. Yea, its been one of those kind of days - I spent 45 minutes stuck in the traffic jam from Hell trying to get to dance class this evening. Blah, blah.
I'm looking for a picture of a particular kind of Belly Dance skirt. This is a panel skirt with triangular panels that almost reach the floor, leaving rather large triangular "slits". If I'm remembering correctly, there's two panels; one front and one rear. I had thought this was a 70s Turkish style skirt, but it appears that I'm wrong - at least I cannot find any that look like this doing an image search for "turkish belly dance skirt".
I'm also not sure if the panels were perfect triangles, or had a triangular bottom to the panels, or what. It obviously shows a LOT of leg.
Help from my Bhuz sisters would be appreciated, as always!

Re: Help me find this kind of skirt...
I think you might mean some kind of petal skirt? Are they wide panels, or narrow? Roughly how many triangles would you guess there were total in this skirt?
Nothing I like better than helping a man shop for a skirt.

Re: Help me find this kind of skirt...
Do they look like harem pants with a big slit on the sides and a crotch around the ankles?

Re: Help me find this kind of skirt...
No, no...
From what I can remember - and maybe I'm hallucinating; there were exactly two triangular shaped panels, one front, one rear. They met at the hip on each side, and extended downward to points fairly close to the floor - one point in center front, one in center rear. I had a dancer tell me that they couldn't even wear panties with some of them because the side was only held together with a string or very thin strap. Obviously, VERY "dangerous". Others had enough of a belt or wider strap that would allow thong panties or similar.
Another way to think of it - a long triangular panel, wide end at waist, point downward near the floor - one such in front, another in back. Maybe the back one was wider? I'm also not sure if the panels were true triangles - or hung straight from the hip to about the knee, then went triangular to the point at the bottom...
I recall a lot of fringe and/or hanging bead strands at the edges.

Re: Help me find this kind of skirt...
If I am reading right, this may be a panel skirt?
Try here:
Bellydance Patterns
there is also a great basic beledy dress pattern which someone was looking for.

Re: Help me find this kind of skirt...
I made a skirt like that once. I made it from.... two triangles and some bouffy bits.

Re: Help me find this kind of skirt...
I think I've seen a skirt like that on a local dancer's site, and have been thinking about making it.
It looked like it was 2 triangles joined at hip level, covering the hips, but exposing the legs as the pointy parts hung down in the middle.
My guess is that back panel is slightly larger than the front, and it would be easier to do it from stretchy material. (hey, everything is easier from stretchy!)
Also there was a trim on the sides cut from but bias strips, in a contrasting color.
I like that look, because it's sexy but not trashy and very simple.
