Thread: slim fast type drink without the milk base?

anyone know of a slim fast type drink with all the vitamins in it that helps control hunger but is not milk based? i'd prefer not soy based either. thanks!

Are you wanting a meal replacement drink? Gawd, I hate 'em... Do you have a milk intolerance or just want to ditch that "shake" goo that's not really like a shake at all?

If you have no milk intolerance and you're wanting something for "between intelligent meals" that will keep the cravings down, go for something that has protein in it. CytoSport makes a drink called PROtein that has 40 grams of whey protein in each bottle! Of course, whey is dairy protein, but it is just about the best kind of protein available. You can slug down half the bottle and get 20 grams of high quality protein, and NO SUGAR, for only 80 calories.

When I'm in the zone, I can eat 3 intelligent meals (protein, veggie, complex carbs, no white sugar or flour) a day and drink half a bottle midmorning and the other half in the afternoon. I never feel deprived. And it makes me feel great!

There are three flavors, tangerine, watermelon and tropical. I really like all of them. There's a similar drink called IsoPure, it has the same calorie count and protein content, more flavors, but they taste watered down to me after drinking the CytoSport, which is more tangy. They have them at GNC and any good sports nutrition place. If you can get them by the case, they're a little easier on the wallet. Right now I'm getting geared up to get "back on the horse", money is very tight, so I bought a bunch of sugar=free Koolaid and a big jar of whey powder, and I'm going to play Mad Scientist and whip up my own protein drink on the cheap.

The problem with Slim Fast and others of their ilk is that they have lots of sugar and high fructose corn syrup... which guess what? MAKES YOU CRAVE MORE EMPTY CARBS! They're just setting you up to drive yourself batty.

Cytosport's Muscle Milk is great. It is milk based (but lactose free), lots of protein, enough fat to make it taste good, and somehow they make it taste sweet with only 6 g of carbs and no artificial sweeteners.

You should be able to find an egg-based protein powder but just watch the sugar content.

As Ghazallah said, slim fast is chock full of sugar.

well crap i was sorta liking slim fast

but yes milk based are no good, i have milk intolerance..

i'll try these other protein thingies..basically its for crucial times when i can't eat because i'm taking care of a sick baby or something and i'd rather reach for a protein drink than something with a quick sugar boost

anyone know how they taste cut with coffee? i'm also experimenting to see if i can cut to half a cup of coffee a day..yesterday i was a zombie but here's day two. maybe i can wean myself by sticking the half a cup in with the protein drink lol
