    sparkly crochet tummy cover idea

Just saw this at a show last Fri. and it looked cool, so I thought I would share. Maybe everyone has seen this before. Anyway, these dancers had sparkly crochet shawls that coordinated with their bra and belt. One corner of the shawl was tucked under the bra and hanging down over their tummy and below the belt. Two ends were tucked into the back of the belt. The effect was similar to those beaded crochet dresses but without the "competing neckline" effect that I sometimes feel I get with those. (If you know what I mean - the line of the dress neckline is not the same as the line of the bra straps and they kind of fight with each other, visually.)

Always looking for good tummy cover solutions as I don't dance without some sort of cover these days and sometimes I get tired of body stockings. For summer, the crochet shawl idea would be much cooler.

What a great idea! Does anyone have a visual example, I'd love to see it. I'll probably NEVER dance uncovered, unless miracles occur to my midsection!

Was the shawl a triangular one or oblong? I'm trying to get a visual here.

Dunyah mentions 3 corners, so maybe it's triangular. Sometimes my imagination can't paint a picture for me. Photos always help me!! ,r:; ..l;,

I am thinking the point of the triangle tucked into the middle of the bra and the two ends draped at the hips.

That's right. The shawl is fairly large. I wish I had a photo but didn't get one.

This would be a good option for troupe costumes, too.

My friend sent me a photo and permission to share with you. The photo doesn't show how sparkly the costumes were under lights, but you can get the idea of how they did it. This is what she wrote: "We just tucked the center of the shawl under our bra, then swung the end over each bootie (scoop fashion). Then we had a blue one too that we put over the slit in our skirt."

"everything old is new again" We did stuff like this back in the 70's. There are so many things you can do with a crochet shawl to accent yout costume.

    I love the look!

I guess I was less focused on tummy covers back then, LOL!

I know a dancer here who has a lot of tat work on her tummy. It covers her c-section scar. When she does a bedlah, she wears something similar to this.
