The plight of the small boobs...
So I am curious...what is it about bellydancers & implants? Not that I wouldn't like to have them, necessarily, if I had the money and/or were brave enough.... but noticing that so many others have them makes me feel like something is wrong with me for NOT having them...and that doesn't seem right....
So is it bad to have little girls? I mean, I assume they work for the purpose they were originally intended for
Opinions, thoughts??

Re: The plight of the small boobs...
it's perfectly FINE to have smaller lovely wine glass boobs..i think some of the most attractive models and actresses have smaller boobs (Kate Hudson, N. Portman)
mine was a completely personal choice, i was not pressured or felt like i had to live up to an ideal..it was as simple as picking out a new haircolor and changing it. I do not regularly perform right now due to full time operation of akai silks and a baby/family life so my decision was not at all influenced by any implants i may have seen in the performance areas (but then again i don't remember seeing many dancers with implants..either that or i just didnt notice).
Please don't feel pressured in any way..it's your body and you are beautiful just like that. If you decide it's the right choice for you , it should be 200% your decision. I'm very open about my recent experience with implants and happy to share the experience with you or anyone else just email any time..

Re: The plight of the small boobs...
I have big uns..since age 12. Blam...overnight. The titty fairy came and things were never the same. Cant run, tripple bag to teach, they look unappealing as they droop, never wore a tank top, or a sundress or a tube top cause the bra shows and we didnt do that in my day..oh god - I said that! Not to mention men cant think in the presence of big hooters and they wont focus on your face when you talk to them....can we say meat here?
If it makes you feel very selfconsious..think about it, but if you like em they way they are - keep em. Think about all those lovely svelt 1920's icons.

I don't even know why I clicked on this thread. I was born with a D cup. Now in a G cup. I know, you are saying, what is a G cup? G stands for GAWD DAYUM! I honestly do wish I had a little rackage...so I can buy all the pretty sparklies on the swap meet board!

Re: The plight of the small boobs...
Samia Gamal was pretty small in the bosom area.

Many wonderful dancers have neither implants nor naturally large breasts.

Yeah I noticed that was an emerging trend with US dancers.

Re: The plight of the small boobs...
Why do you think it has anything to do with belly dance??
Most of us have talked on this board many times regarding augmentation, whether you are going bigger or having a reduction, the general consensus, was that we all felt pretty good in our belly dance bra's, heavy duty padding and you have a great small C cup, if you are jumbo on top nothing probably supports like a hard beaded cup!
Many of us did it for personal choice in our everyday lives outside of BD, If I could have worn my costume bra everywhere I would have been happy, but when I wanted to wear a sundress, and a padded bra wouldn't work, it made me feel bad, so I can now go bra less, wear a backless dress etc, and not feel flat as a board. I think you are maybe taking it out of context, how many bank tellers, school teachers, computer programmers have implants, probably quite a few in corporate jobs.
There is nothing wrong with being fine with small boobs, everybody has a preference, so as long as you are happy with your choice it's really not a big deal.
I just don't think BD is the reason women are having implants, it's not like it makes you a better dancer, or increases your tips, mine stayed the same after my surgery, which I was happy about, because that meant they were tipping me according to my dancing, not bra size.

Re: The plight of the small boobs...
..l;,Agree! I think it's a personal journey.
I can still wear training bras
but confidence (and kindness too!) is the real marks of beauty. Not bra size. Of course I've had a few jerks who have said I'm not "big" enough to be a bellydancer...but there are people who will complain about just about anything. (and you have to learn to pick out the jerks)
I think most people who have augmentation are looking for more confidence and that is what makes them more appealing postop-that they feel good. Everyone should feel good in the skin they're in. And however they go about feeling good (as long as it's not hurting anyone) is their business.

Re: The plight of the small boobs...
I think it's really "[fill in the blank] and implants", not just bellydancers and implants.
Models and implants...Strippers and implants...Corporate executives and implants...Actresses and implants...Ad infinitum...
Or a lot of women who get breast augmentation just happen to be bellydancers.
It may be easier to tell on dancers (of all stripes) b/c the costuming (or lack thereof) shows more decolletage.
I resonate with what Aradia said.

Re: The plight of the small boobs...
yes, 3 girls in my dentists office all went to my doctor for implants after seeing mine, they wear scrubs all day so who could tell, but they all had more confidence after their procedure.
I agree that it's just more noticeable on dancers because we wear less clothing or tighter outfits. Honestly, if I were a guy I would want a girlfriend/wife with big boobs, I've always thought they are sexy! ..g.: I prayed to the boob fairy as a kid to give me big boobs, didn't happen!! ,m:: I personally have always thought curvy body's, hour glass shapes are prettiest, I have a very straight body, no hips etc, so the implants gave me some curve to my body, and now I really feel good about the way I look, and that's what matters most. Who cares what others say behind your back, it's their insecurity about how they look. I had been dancing for 23 years before I finally decided to have it done. It's been 8 years now, and not a day goes by that I'm not thankful that I had the surgery!!
Personal choice ladies, some women are obsessed with their butt, thighs, nose whatever, if it bothers you and makes you insecure fix it, there is no shame in wanting to be beautiful in your own eyes.
Same goes for men, if they are self conscious about losing their hair they should get a hair transplant, why not, if they feel more handsome they should do it!!!!!Last edited by Aradia; 07-27-2008 at 04:45 AM.

Re: The plight of the small boobs...
Take a look at the threads by those of us who were touched by the boob fairy, and you'll see it's not all fun. Take a browse through pretty much any costume website and all the costumes are B and C cups, If I were still a B cup, there is no way i would consider implants.

Re: The plight of the small boobs...
I have to second everything Aradia has said. Belly Dance had absolutely nothing to do with my decision. I have wanted implants ever since my teens when I realized boobie fairy wasn't going to visit. I waited until I was 30 just to be sure it was what I wanted. I now wish I had done it when I was 21 and the rest of my body looked as young! LOL. Perhaps some women can feel comfortable having their front look the same as their back but I was not. I couldn't wear anything without worrying that I couldn't finagle a strapless or backless bra underneath so I could pad it up. Also, let me tell you...too much padding looks weird because my bra cups would just stand out off my ribcage but there would be no good cleavage. Swimsuits looked rediculous padded up like that. Now I can wear whatever I want. I love having boobs! I also have an aquaintance who got them.... when she was 45.... and she is an attorney.

Re: The plight of the small boobs...
My natural boobs are one of the few parts of me I don't fret about! (I fret less about my body in general as I get older, however.)
I have not seriously considered any kind of cosmetic procedure, but if it helps another woman feel confident, sexy, etc.--I wouldn't stand in the way. The only person I know with implants, aside from Jes, is a woman I work with at my office and she loves hers.

Re: The plight of the small boobs...
I wore an AA bra until I was about seventeen or eighteen. I didn't even wear a bra for years. Then WHAM suddenly I have size D?
Then again, I didn't get my first tooth til I was a year and a half old. Maybe I'm a late bloomer.
My recommendation is to get fat. Bigger boobs come with that. ..l;,

Re: The plight of the small boobs...
The problem is that a woman's self image is influenced by what she sees around her. The more common breast enhancements get, the more likely small breasted women are to feel inadequate, because it changes our common societal beauty aesthetics.
However, I totally agree that cosmetic procedures of any kind are a personal decision, and I do not think poorly of anyone who decides to have something done. There is a procedure or two I would like done if I had the money (not breast related).
I guess the big picture is a little sad, that's all.

I know, Sedonia. I struggle with that, too. I would like women to accept how we look naturally. My son went to the public pool yesterday for a party and I was marveling at all of the natural bodies there--imperfect and still beautiful in their own ways.

Re: The plight of the small boobs...
I'm in a relatively new troupe, so we're all just now getting really comfortable with each other. last week in practice, a convo about boobs came up. two of the ladies have itty bitty tiny ones. one made a comment about how she didn't need to worry about cleavage in our costumes, somebody else made a comment that she then worried may have made one of the IBTC girls feel bad - and the other IBTC girl shook her head and said "why are people always telling me they're sorry for me? I LOVE my boobs!" and the other agreed - people always seem to feel like they should feel sorry for them. I, on the other hand (I'm an F, which in the language of Nilaja stands for Freaking Huge), am the person people should be saying "oh, you poor thing!" to!
it may be coincidence, but the two IBTC girls have the rockin'est hips and booties EVER. I would MUCH rather have a booty that stopped traffic than boobs that stopped traffic. you can always pad your bras, but you can't fake a great behind! and it's a scientifically proven fact that hip-to-waist ratio is what keeps you swimming in the gene pool. ;)

Re: The plight of the small boobs...
I hear that...I'm already saving up for face lifts, neck lifts, etc... that I know based on genetics will be a MUST for me to leave the house. Hmm. Maybe when I have that done in my 50's I'll throw a pair of boobs in for good measure.
Maybe part of my confusion comes from so many of the girls in my troupe having implants (seems to really be common here) and also from people doing such wonderfully NOT funny things as giving me duct tape for Christmas (to give me some cleavage for heavens sake), all their spare shoulder pads from the 80's, etc...
My husband seems happy enough (can't keep his hands to himself, anyway) so I guess, who cares?? ..g.:

Re: The plight of the small boobs...
I recently went to the beach and was taking in the sights of all the young girls walking around in bikinis. I have come to the conclusion that the one thing I miss most of my youth is when my skin actually fit properly, smooth and elastic. Do they have an all over body procedure for this yet?

One of the reasons I am happy for gaining back some of the weight I lost 3 years ago--some of my boobs came back and they look a little fuller and less deflated.

Re: The plight of the small boobs...
That's what bothers me the most. Especially when promotional literature from DuPont and your local friendly plastic surgeon touts implants as a way of feeling confident, sexy and "feminine," that you're somehow emasculate if you can't fill out at least a B-cup. With such heavy stuff tied into definitions of "sexy" and "feminine," it's not surprising that virtually every A-cupper I know has considered surgical intervention at one point or another.
I've toyed with the idea about a million times, and have even researched it with serious intention at one point, but I always decide against it. I've got a bangin' booty, waist-length hair, the body of a fitness model and a great face. Nobody's ever complained about the size of my boobs, in the context of dance, or otherwise. One of my first teachers had to stuff her bras to the high heavens just like me and she was still THE undisputed "it-girl" of the community. Really goes to show that this dance is not about boobs. (Aradia's observation about tips further confirms this!) If you're talented and charismatic onstage, people will like you.
I was getting a little worried about all the implant/bust enhancement talk on Bhuz, too....it really seems like A-cups are a dying breed. (Maybe that will make us rare, exotic and sexy someday). But we're all entitled to make personal decisions, whether we choose to go under the knife OR to embrace the lil' girls. Implants are a totally legitimate choice - but in the context of this conversation, I can't stress enough the equal legitimacy of choosing to remain small. From an aesthetic standpoint, certain women look much more attractive on a smaller scale. IMNSHO, I think even moderately sized implants can sometimes look downright ghastly on a super slender, petite woman with a minimal body fat composition. On someone like Jes, who is tall and has the right frame to pull them off, they can look great. It's all case specific. But I don't think they look good on everyone.
Sonja, you're a gorgeous girl and I love your uniquely svelte figure, your charming beauty and porcelain skin. Please don't let anyone tell you that you're inadequate, because that couldn't be further from the truth.Last edited by SatinWorship19; 07-27-2008 at 12:56 PM.

Re: The plight of the small boobs...
Damn right! Even my piggy male chauvinist construction industry co-workers recognize that to be a scientific fact. They also chewed me out one day when I mentioned the remote possibility that I might someday consider implants. Personality is key. Sense of humor ranked astronomically high in my informal surveys, too. A nice ass doesn't hurt, either.
In the case of someone like Jessica Simpson, who has the charisma of a stale bagel and the wit of a doorknob, tits win. Sad, but true. She represents the 2% percentile.

There are guys who will ogle at a hot twit, but in real life a funny girl with a decent ass can do just fine. Works for me.
