sewing fringe on a sleeve?!?
Yes, that's what I said, on a SLEEVE! ..g.:
I'm planning a retro 70s sort of thing for our Halloween Hafla in October (plug goes here, Madison Bellydance Alliance) and I'm hoping to buy some L Rose bellbottom pants and a half top for it. But I'm probably making my own fringed belt and, due to the 70s thing, I thought it would be really fun to sew some chainette fringe along the underside of the sleeves.
However... all the chainette I've seen has a wide band at the top. That's not so attractive. If I cut it off, voila, fringe sticks together no more.
I also suspect I MUST attach it by hand, because there's no way I can think of to put a tubular sleeve under my machine presser foot.
Do you have any ideas for how to attach the fringe in such a way that I can get rid of most of the band? Brainstorming starts here!

Re: sewing fringe on a sleeve?!?
You can pick out part of the sleeve seam (the "bottom" seam of the sleeve - closer to the body) and re-sew with most of the band of the fringe inside the seam allowance. Just make sure you're putting it together so the fringe will be on the OUTSIDE of the sleeve when you turn it rightside out! Yes you'd think that would be a no-brainer, but I know it's just the kind of mistake I'd probably make if I was sewing late at night when I was tired. And then of course after I realized what I had done I would feel sort of . . . suicidal. He he.
I ah . . . hope this has been encouraging!..l;,

I think perhaps it's more of an 80's look than a 70's thing, but whatever.. sounds like a fun show. Maybe you could order the gauntlets from l rose and have them add fringe?

I can't help with the sewing, but please send me info about the Halloween hafla. I'd LOVE to be part of it if there's room!

Re: sewing fringe on a sleeve?!?
Oh, I can see myself doing EXACTLY that... because the length of the fringe would have to be inside the tube of the sleeve and the band sticking out to the wrong side of the fabric... which would look really weird... gaaah!
But it would probably work if I can unpick the seam without it being too damaging... I might worry that the knit fabric will curl up on me if I unpick it. Hmm.
