Re: Does anyone really do this?
Of course if I looked like that I would probably skip the skirt all together!

Is it me, or is there also a dark spot in the middle of her right breast?

Re: Does anyone really do this?
What a pretty costume! (Can't tell if it's a Bella or a Sim).
I've done slightly more conservative modifications on that tuck, where you bring both sides of the back panel to the center front of the skirt, showing nice amounts of leg on both sides.
This particular tuck doesn't shock me all that much in terms of the amount of visible leg, but it does bother me to see all that extraneous fabric piled in the direction of her tuckus. Kind of an odd neo-bustle effect that doesn't exactly tickle my fancy.

Re: Does anyone really do this?
That bothered me the most too. Why would you want to make your butt look bigger with a wad of bunched up fabric? Also every time she moves I am wondering if I am going to see some cheek. Love the bra and belt though... I am thinking it must be a Bella. It doesn't look as encrusted as the Sims normally are.

Re: Does anyone really do this?
Personally I've always found that "hip poofies" that are positioned in more of a forward location than she uses make a more effective movement accent for most of a dancer's power moves with their hip. The position I like is specifically in the spot on the hip that is halfway between lifting the leg directly out to the side or directly out to the front. Or more specifically - place your hands on your hips with your fingers forward and thumbs back (the "so what!" position). The "poofie" spot is pretty much right where your fingers are (depending of course upon the size of your fingers/hand versus the size of your hips - but you get the idea).

Re: Does anyone really do this?
I don't really have any problems with this - either the slits or the poofs, although I agree with Tedi - I like the ones which are placed a little more forward.

Re: Does anyone really do this?
I use the hip poufs to cover the slits so I show *less* leg. Who knew I'd been doing it wrong?

Re: Does anyone really do this?
I sometimes wear my skirts like this, though with much less leg showing (I fully support the leggy retro bellydancer look, though. It's so hot! I just don't like my legs enough to shamelessly put them on display). The tucked in skirt creates a poof that makes hip movements bigger and more visible.

I could point you to a photo of Serena Wilson and one of Soheir Zaki both wearing a very similar arrangement of skirt.

Re: Does anyone really do this?
Sometimes we wore 2 skirts also. A basic gold or silver underskirt then an overskirt in contrasting color. You always poofed if you wore an overskirt.
We use to make an art of poofing. The poofs in the video aren't very artistic. We would gather up the end of our skirt and sort of gather it in a fan. Due to our long nails and tight belts we often had to use a butter knife to wedge the fabric in. It sometimes took several tries to get the poofing and draping just right. But the poof widened the hips and accentuated the moves while at the same time made our waist appear smaller. I think most dancers (at least in my area) stopped pouffing in the early 90's when long fringe became the rage and skirts became straighter and more covered up. I'd love to see a return to that vintage classical look.

Hmmm - I wouldn't wear one that way, but I'm a guy and not quite that daring! However, I just *loved* her entrance! How can I get a sedan chair to bring me onto the stage? It'd take about eight gals to bear it though...

Re: Does anyone really do this?
It may just be the prude in me (what little there is) but the tiny little front of that skirt is just not my bag. To scared that I will show much much more then leg! I have seen some really beautiful tucking around. That didn't look much like there was a lot of time taken to do it.

Amira Mor wears her skirts kind of like this - no tucking, but teeny tiny bits in the front - check out this page (scroll down): AmiraMor.com - Belly Dancing and Bellydance Shopping - Find Belly Dance Costumes, Hip Scarves, Dance Shoes and More - Amira in Nature

Re: Does anyone really do this?
i'd like to know the secret to keeping the skirt down and not flashing but i do love this look..we could easily get away with this in hawaii since less is more and we're all used to seeing more flesh. i love this look..very sexy ..when i was tan i wore my skirts similar to this but a bit more fullness..i like skirt spinning
if someone sends me a pattern i can make them in silk..they'd probably be darn right affordable since it doesnt look like much fabric.

Re: Does anyone really do this?
Somebody told me I had a 'latina a$$' not too long ago. It was clearly meant as a compliment, but I don't really know what the characteristics of that are, and now I'm curious! How does it differ from, say, a German one?
And being prone to overthink things, I also started wondering where the Latina a$$ comes from. Do Spanish women have it? Portugese? Or is it a Central/South American phenomina? Does it come from Mayans? Aztecs?
Inquiring minds want to know. ..g.:
(sorry for the threadjack -- on topic, I can only say the costume seems like a typical Turkish retro look to me, similar to the Amcab look of the 60's through 80's)
