um, tight dance pants issue
a troupe I'm in has a set where three of us are wearing bellbottom flares by L Rose designs, in gold metalskin. talk about crazy pants - it's like our booties were dipped in liquid gold! the issue: the fabric and cut leave little to the imagination and the three of us are faced with major CAMEL TOE. .w.: what can we do?? spanx? industrial strength panty liners?? jock straps??? the fringe on our costume belts isn't long enough to hide things when we move... HELP!

I have no clue how to stop Da Toe!

Re: um, tight dance pants issue
Could you wear the pants lower to give a little bit more "room" to the toe area?
Otherwise, Spanx may be an option.

Re: um, tight dance pants issue
Can you get some more fabric sent to you and create a gussett for the crotch?

Re: um, tight dance pants issue
I've never understood this "camel toe" issue. So you have a mons and a vulva, so what? I don't think it looks offensive at all - and sometimes I've seen what people call "camel toe" and nothing is showing!
Is it really, honestly that bad?

Re: um, tight dance pants issue
maybe make a mini skirt in the same fabric? or a flat hipscarf shaped piece under the belt? Some flarepants have this built in so I'm thinking it might work.
like these sharifwear pants

Re: um, tight dance pants issue
The easiest thing to do with simplest sewing would be to add about 2 inches at the top of the waistband. That would lower the crotch and keep it from riding so high that it digs in. The waistband area will be under the belt so anything you add there will not show so fabric will not have to match exactly. You could even add nude lycra swimsuit lining if you needed to. If you don't want to redo the waistband itself, cut the waistband off about an inch below so tht you have something to seam. Sew the extra strip of fabric to the cut edge of the waistband then sew the newly lengthened waistband to the pants. Once a hip belt or scarf goes over it no one will see.
If the pants are too tight around the hips rather than too shallow in the crotch, You have to identify whether it too tight across the rear, sides, front or waistband. You can then open up the seams, insert gussets. This is a lot more sewing than the option in the previous paragraph.
Or easy way out if the pants fit otherwise--Ask Lora to make you up some gold chiffon short underskirts to go under the belts.

Re: um, tight dance pants issue
I think if you don't have enough rise in the pants, you get cameltoe. You don't want momjeans sort of rise because you want to show your midsection...but my guess is that as you dance the pants may settle up on the hips a bit and that gives the full frontal issue.
Not having seen the costume, it's hard to say, but maybe a longer fringe belt could be a cheaper option for more coverage.

Re: um, tight dance pants issue
it's not a rise or too tight in the hips issue - the fabric is just really fine and clingy. zumarrad, it really, truly is That Bad.
we need the solution in just under 2 weeks so today we discussed having lora make matching side slit mini skirt/loin cloths, but then we decided to try and whip out some chiffon overskirts. although we haven't tried the spanx yet - maybe that will fix the problem. we thought about wearing pantiliners to see if that would help, but with these pants you could probably tell what brand we were wearing!

Re: um, tight dance pants issue
Have you contacted L Rose? Maybe they have encountered this problem before and know of solutions. Or maybe they need to know, if they don't?

I love how the barfing icon spews out of its nose...
we found our solution! one of the other gals in the troupe has this nifty stretch mesh tribal-y diagonal overskirt thing and it looks great with the bling pants. I called the person today who made it and she has some gold snakeskin mesh that will be just PERFECT. halelujia. I'm meeting with her on thursday.

Re: um, tight dance pants issue
interesting though, how we dont mind our butt-outline showing... but we're horrified with the front doing the same...
i love the cucumber idea, or maybe some of these things footballers use to protect their crotch
on topic: fabric on the in or outside, extra lining, or a kind of skirt/belt thingy, seems the solution

Re: um, tight dance pants issue
Aw, at least you've got natural 'toe and don't need the cup....
Camel Toe
Seriously, though - have you tried one of those extra wide panty liners to see if that works? Other than that, I'd say hang something over it - like maybe a gold beaded hip scarf or go for the faux skirt over the front. Is it really that bad of a toe? Like this guy for example....

Doh! I see you just found a solution - awesome! Enjoy the pics anyway - they're hilarious...Last edited by Jenn; 08-05-2008 at 11:59 AM.

Re: um, tight dance pants issue
Actually I do mind the bootie too. I'm one of the gals that has to wear these pants and was definitely complaining about how outlined my butt is in them. Sure, it looks great because that pants cup and lift, but we're dancing in a wedding, so not very appropriate.

Cut the crotch out :)
Seriously though, in regard to panty liners.
They actually make the problem worse as they give bigger 'toes' to the camel.
