ques for those that wear mineral makeup
What do you use for:
a) undereye concealer
b) blemish concealer
(I've just been using a more concentrated amount of the foundation for both, and it's way too dry and scratchy for under my eyes, and as far as covering up blemishes - eh.)
Thanks in advance!

Re: ques for those that wear mineral makeup
I don't have much in the way of undereye circles, but for blemishes, I use the same mineral foundation I use on my whole face. I tap it on with a small soft brush - the one I use was intended to be a lip brish I think, It game in a gift with purchase set from lancome. I find the small brush is important, because I can't get nearly as good of coverage with my finger or a qtip.

Re: ques for those that wear mineral makeup
I was wondering about this too. I am new to ED and when I use it under my eyes they look crepy.
I am also bummed because now the shine is back, though not as bad as with bare minerals. I guess my oily skin is just too stubborn. I wonder if your skin gets fooled for awhile then catches on....w.:

Re: ques for those that wear mineral makeup
try mixing the powder with a tiny bit of moisturizer for under eyes. you will know when the consistency is right. then gently pat under the eyes.
layering. cover spot first, then powder face, then cover spot again and blend. yes, the little brushes are best for spot cover.
and of course carefully pass the large brush over the spot you just covered prior to the second-pass cover.
you can also mix the powder into a tiny bit of clear blemish cream and apply to the spot if needed

Re: ques for those that wear mineral makeup
everyday minerals have several different concealers.....it seems a finer mill, and comes in multi-purpose (which i use) and toned ones (green to cut down redness, etc) and since they do samples, it pays to experiment........
in agreement on the smaller brush, with short firm (not stiff) bristles......i usually do the foundation, then concealer, than GENTLE light foundation coat over to blend and silk dust patted in with a big soft powder brush
i'm acne prone and for the most part, i end up looking clear and stage-worthy............
i like the idea of mixing with moisturizer for under-eye, i may try it.........

I use the Everyday Minerals "Sunlight" concealer for undereyes. For the first time in my entire life I don't have dark circles...you definitely need to put the light powder foundation over, as it has a slight yellow tint to it, but when you combine the two-POW!--it's amazing. Clear, glowing skin with no bags

Re: ques for those that wear mineral makeup
I use a normal (Clinique) concealer to be honest. The mineral concealers never worked too well for me as far as coverage and looking nice goes. I do have a concealer brush that I can use to intensify the coverage of the minerals but only do that if I only have a little redness/breakouts

Bare Minerals multi-tasking BISQUE works well for me, & they have darker shades for the summer. Followed by foundation and blush, I then finish with a fine mist (Evian water ok but something with Aloe is better) to set powders which gives a glow. Alternately, MAC also has a liquid mineral based foundation which is applied with their brush with has the white feather tips (great natural all over coverage but a little too heavy for me in the summer).

Anyone else have problems with your face stinging after putting on Bare Minerals? I switched to L'Oreal's Bare Naturale and that's a little better, but still stings and makes my face itch.
And any advice on covering crows feet? I swear make-up just makes them stand out even more.

Re: ques for those that wear mineral makeup
You are almost certainly allergic to Bismuth Oxchloride - it's what's makes the glowy finish in Bare Minerals (and it is in *every* other mineral brand at Sephora or in the drug store)
There are a lot of smaller, independent mineral brands that don't use Bismuth Oxychloride. My favorite is Everyday Minerals (there's been a lot of discussion about them on Bhuz), but there are a ton of other great brands that other people can suggest.

Re: ques for those that wear mineral makeup
I use Aromaleigh, and will either:
* both: use one of their concealers
* both: mix some of my mineral foundation with a little moisturizer and apply
* for eyes: put a shadow primer all around my eyes (I use Urban Decay), then I will use a small brush to apply the powder foundation to the circles. I may use a larger soft brush to brush over my eye and get any loose powder off.

I use an eyeshadow brush to cover blemishes. Undereye I find the coverage is ok for me, but I sometimes use a touch of highlighter.

Re: ques for those that wear mineral makeup
All good ideas, everyone. Will have to try: mixing with moisturizer, using a non-mineral concealer, doing a bit more of a pass-over after applying concealer to blemishes, trying diff mineral concealers.... hmm, I think that's it.
just to clarify - I don't use the big ol' foundation brush to apply concealer under my eyes or on blemishes. I've do have a nice small brush too. All this brush advice I'm getting makes me worry you all think I'm pounding my eyes with a buki. :)
Jenn - I get the Bare Minerals itchies too. Doesn't bother me too bad, but I've been meaning to try some other stuff to compare, just haven't gotten around to it.

Re: ques for those that wear mineral makeup
Same here about the undereye situation with mineral make-up. My concern with adding moisturizer or using a cream concealer is the water-resistant factor. I need something that will stand up to "glowing" during a performance, but won't emphasize lines like mineral make-up does.

Re: ques for those that wear mineral makeup
Silicone-based concealer.

Best of both worlds: fills lines and seals moisture. Great for oily and dry skin.
Not as easy to get as regular mineral and liquid or cream concealers but they are out there...
Right now I am using Temptu's pro concealer wheel (used as a base concealer before airbrushing). It is coming with me to Raq the Cameras from now on.
Or you can fill lines with silicone primer and cover with your regular concealer.Last edited by Azhia; 08-06-2008 at 01:02 AM.

Re: ques for those that wear mineral makeup
Azhia,
I still end up looking like a glazed doughnut an hour after applying makeup
tell me where I am going wrong:Here's what I've tried,
Urban decay eylid primer (tried under eyes too, works on eyelid, but not under eye.
shisedo the make up smoothing veil: (I was told at Sephora that this was silicone based) tried on face and under eyes, still got greasy looking skin
Perscriptives med coverage oil free liquid foundation (yuk)
EM Intensive finish foundation followed by silk dust (even w/ primer underneath)
What do you suggest for a good silicone primer for face and under eyes?
And If I use that am I still supposed to just use the EM make up under eye?Last edited by Bahtya; 08-06-2008 at 01:29 AM.

Re: ques for those that wear mineral makeup
an update: I just purchased a non-mineral undereye concealer and blemish concealer, and I'm really, really liking it! I'm using Neutrogena 3in1 for undereye and Mac studio stick for blemishes. I apply the Neutrogena, then mineral foundation, then spot cover blemishes with Mac, then use a small brush with minerals to go over blemishes, then a final dusting with the minerals. It stays really well, my eye makeup even seems to last longer and have less of a crease problem. I'm even more impressed with the Neutrogena than MAC. Happy so far!

Re: ques for those that wear mineral makeup
Clientelle (sp?) have a very good two tone concealor that doesn't sit in fine lines round the eyes. Also a thumbs up for Givenchy - I think it was called skin tonic?
Using a silicone primer or based M.U can also work well but you need to make sure you don't overload the skin or it sits in the lines. Whilst MMU is very good for covering up it's not so good with those lines IMO I've tried at least 6 sorts. If you want to use MMU round the eyes I would suggest using a brand that has little or no shimmer to cover skin blemishes and another with shimmer to use over fine lines. But it's pretty much trial and error.
