prong set or sewn crystals?
i need to replace several large crystals on a costume. they are currently prong set. i was going to change them all to sew on crystals to prevent the falling off issue. here's my questions: when you purchase a costume, would you rather have sewn on crystals or prong set? does it affect the value in your mind? do you care?
for me, i would rather just replace them with sew on so that i am less likely to lose them- but i know there's a certain look you get with the prong set.

Re: prong set or sewn crystals?
I prefer sewn on. Not only because you're less likely to lose them, but also because the prongs can snag fabrics and veils. I really dislike prong set crystals.

There's a thread somewhere on Bhuz that talks about where to buy them.
Ah, here it is...

Re: prong set or sewn crystals?
Yup,the majority is right;D
Sew-on doesn´t snag the costume itself,
(lycra is really sensitive to snags)
or silk/chiffon veils!

Re: prong set or sewn crystals?
I like sew on they are easier to replace if you use one. The costume I'm wearing has prong crystals. I snagged 2 veils and had to take a pliers to make sure I don't get cut,if I brush my hand or arm against the skirt. Never again prong crystals on costumes, I'm for sew on.

Re: prong set or sewn crystals?
Just to play devil's advocate: I love my great loop costumes, and they have the prong stones on them. I haven't had much trouble with them snagging veils. I think the stones with prongs are a little brighter, and I like that you can't see the thread they are sewn on with. That said, the original owner of one of my great loops must have had some trouble with the prongs, because I had to replace like 5 stones after I bought it. No big deal , since it's easy as pie to stick them in the prongs and close it up with pliers. I don't use my costumes as often as the ladies here do, so maybe that's why I'm more tolerant of the prongs. :)
