Keeping a dress from slipping down
I have a dress that I absolutely love. I wore it for a photo shoot and one performance so far. In the middle of my drum solo I noticed the dress had slipped down quite a bit and it felt like the mesh had streched and the weight of the bottom of the dress was pulling it down. Can I put elastic in the hips of the dress to prevent this?

If it's the dress I'm thinking it might be, I think elastic in the waist towards the top end of the fabric where it'll still be hidden by the decoration would be a wonderful idea.

I was thinking that putting some wide elastic in the hips right below the mesh middle so it hugs my hips a little tighter maybe that would keep it from slipping? I've lost a little weight, not much, but enough to mess with my costumes. I have a few costumes now that I need to take in a bit. but you can't really take in a dress. Can you?Last edited by MahiraRaqs; 08-06-2008 at 09:54 PM.

In addition to the elastic, you could try pinning it to your undies on the inside -- unless it would slide them down too!

What about tacking it up a little under the bra?

It's got some pretty serious weight Latifa... lol! The beading on that dress is no joke.
I think some wide elastic where you're thinking of putting it would fix it for sure and maybe a few safety pins to avoid sliding if need be but I never really had a problem with it swishing around much until it was seriously too big. I'm really not sure it could be taken in b/c of all the beading... I definitely thought about it before selling! lol You just can't avoid loving that dress... *sigh* happy memories. :)
Congrats on the weight loss btw!

You gotta keep the weight off the mesh. Hand sew the hip decorations to some heavy boy shorts or cheerleader panties and step into the whole affair to put it on and then pull it up.

I've successfully used toupee tape to tape my dress right where I want it. Put it on, pull it up, stick the tape where you want it on you and then stick the dress to that. Wait a few seconds for it to set and it's all good! If it's got heavy beadwork you might need strips all the way around.

Re: Keeping a dress from slipping down
Also make sure you don't store the dress on a hanger because that will keep stretching it longer.
The dress I am wearing in my profile pic is way long and the heavy beading and fringe continue to pull. So what I did was to turn it inside out and fold some of the skirt up and tack it to the hip area where it was hidden by the fringe. Every time a wear it, however, the torso above the hips stretches too and I am rather shortwaisted. So I think I will try toupe tape next.
